The mission of the FB Foundation is to advocate for prosperity and progress of low-to-moderate-income LMI individuals and communities in the State of South Carolina. This is done through training and technical assistance to faith-based community leaders. These trained leaders in turn, provide community information, resources, and opportunities to local LMI individuals, and families. These efforts serve as a means to increase the upward mobility of local residents.

| *OutcomesDuring 2020, Community FaithWorks continued to provide community-based education and training to faith-based organizations and community leaders during the months of January and February of 2020. Efforts focused on the introduction and training of the (new second) groups of pastors?, laity from faith-based organizations and community representatives. Emphasis was placed on the definition and key principles of community development, undertaking a faith-based community needs assessment, neighborhood asset mapping, and spiritual mapping. A total of twelve (12) faith-based organizations, 48 participants total (to include the pastor and up to four congregants) were active participants served during these two months. Events took a major shift in March of 2020, when the Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) began to spread across South Carolina. Efforts of Community FaithWorks (CFW) with training pastors in the conventional congregate setting now changed to an entire virtual training and community-based implementation approach. Outcome 1 for Community FaithWorks (CFW) shifted to a local and regional approach. As an outgrowth entity during the spread of COVID-19, the CFW-Care Response Team (CFW-CRT) was formed. The CFW-CRT alliance included regional and statewide engagement with sixty-one (61) community-based organizations within South Carolina. This alliance led to the distribution of needed food, PPE, housing, and utility assistance to LMI families through our faith-based network of CFW Churches. In addition, faith-based organizations worked alongside CFW and key partners such as AmeriCorps of South Carolina and Palmetto Community Action Partners. Through these partnerships, participating faith based and community organizations receiving training, became lead centers, Co-ops and mobile locations in which community residents and families received essential services. Through the partnership, services by category and total individuals and families served were (1) Housing Assistance: 825 families, (2) Utility/Energy Assistance and Payments: 720 families (3) Food Assistance: 8,399 families, (4) Personal Protective Equipment (masks, hand sanitizers): 60,000 items, in alliance with 15 supporting faith-based and 61 regional/statewide community organizations. Outcome Result 2The CFW-CRT saw the need for a central coordinating entity (via our statewide faith-based network of churches within LMI communities), designed for the distribution of essential resources and ensure that specific information was provided to all individuals and families impacted by the spread of COVID-19. CFW?s Care Response Team and its trained faith and community-based leaders filled the resource gap at a time when individual faith-based organizations on there own could not meet the growing need of individuals and families in LMI communities because of the widespread nature of the Pandemic. To respond to this need, Community FaithWorks established, coordinated marketed and participated directly with the CFW Care Response Team, along with key alliances. Community individuals and families were equipped with knowledge of what services were available to them. CFW-CRT trained faith-based organizations on how to help provide safe, efficient and direct linkage(s) of these services in locations most closest to where they reside (mobile stations were provided in church parking lots throughout the state to safely assist those in cars with receiving COVID-19 related services); which was closer to where people reside. The CFW-CRT featured three key approaches to assist individuals and families: (1) Information marketing, coordination and dissemination through local, regional, and state-wide media outlets (through our statewide TV/radio partnership that reached 1.4 Million households and leveraging 30,000 combined social media followers), (2) Linkage of residents and families to local and regional community (action) agencies, and (3) linkage of individuals and families to essential community services and resources. A total of seventy-six (76) faith and community-based organizations partnered to serve a total of 9,944 LMI families located in ten (10) counties within South Carolina. Through the combined efforts of CFW?s EMERGE Academy, the organization utilized its partnerships with BB&T (Truist) and Palmetto Community Action Partners to sponsor and host a Virtual Summer Youth Institute (Emerging Leaders Certification Program). A total of 25 students (whose family income is at or below 200% of the poverty level) across three (3) counties in South Carolina were able to participate and learn from knowledge experts in areas such as school, career and leadership development, college entrance/college exposure, technology, and soft skills knowledge. A key outcome of CFW?s EMERGE Academy?s ? Truist Emerging Leaders Virtual Summer Program was the leadership certification, which was awarded to each youth participant. The earned leadership certifications are used by the students for resumes, summer employment, college admission and scholarships. Outcome Result 3The ability to efficiently identify, link and provide essential community services to individuals and families was critical to meeting the basic needs of individual families and households. Often individuals and from low income, low wealth and poverty-stricken households not only are unaware that essential community services are available, but they also lack the ability to get to those services. To address concerns, a third outcome was the CFW Care Response Team?s ability to establish and leverage its partnerships with local and state agencies whose primary role was to provide continuous goods and services to needy and eligible families. The CFW-CRT through its coordinating network of participating faith-based and community organizations, Ameri-Corps, Trident United Way, Palmetto CAP, Orgin SC, SC Legal Services, SC Human Affairs Commission, Truist Bank, DHEC, USDA Farmers to Families Program and dozens more, were able to link the following essential and direct community services to families: (1) Food Assistance through USDA and Community Food Banks, (2) Social Service Agency Assistance (WIC and SNAP) (3) Rental Assistance to prevent evictions (4) Mortgage Assistance to prevent foreclosure, (5) Utility Assistance, (6) Health, Medical & PPE Assistance, (7) Educational & Technology-based Assistance, (8) and Free Legal Assistance. Through these eight essential community service areas LMI families were served through the CFW Care Response Team, and Faith-based / community organizations. | - | - |
