The mission of the FB Foundation is to advocate for prosperity and progress of low-to-moderate-income LMI individuals and communities in the State of South Carolina. This is done through training and technical assistance to faith-based community leaders. These trained leaders in turn, provide community information, resources, and opportunities to local LMI individuals, and families. These efforts serve as a means to increase the upward mobility of local residents.

| 1.Economic and community development principles and concepts have been introduced to approximately 25 faith based organizations within the Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties of South Carolina. Other cities in included are Hilton Head/Beaufort, Columbia and Myrtle Beach, SC. 2.Sessions have been held once a month for three hours each time a training session was held. 3.Material findings involved the development of training modules for participating Faith Leaders. Faith Leaders are being taught the basic concepts and are provided tools related to the economic and community development process. 4.Included in this training is an emphasis on ten areas: 1 Defining community-economic development within a faith and community context, 2 how economic and community development can enhance individual, family and community well-being, 3 the process related to community-economic development and how it helps to build healthy people and thus healthy communities, 4 how to conduct a community needs assessment to identify the broader set of needs of the faith based congregation and most importantly people who live within each community, 5 how to build a faith based and representatively-composed community-economic development team to conduct the community needs assessment, 6 how to take the information provided in the community needs assessment to identify actual and prioritized community programs to address community needs, 7 how to use the data from the community needs assessment to establish prioritized programming unique to each community, 8how to establish a representative grant team to pursue grant and related funding on behalf of the individuals and families located in the community, 9 how to use the data from the community needs assessment to develop grant proposals in the proper community and economic development context, and 10how to assess, evaluate and monitor each program and project created and operated from any funding received. 5.Faith leaders are provided with Power point presentations and written materials, books, reading materials, direct contacts and other resources. In addition, for each of the ten areas listed above, Faith Leaders and their team members participate in live and relevant hands on exercises. The goal of these exercises is to enhance and reinforce each of the concept areas discussed and taught during the training so that our SCFW faith leaders can begin implementation within their own neighborhoods. | - | - |
