“KAREN NASH MEMORIAL BUTTERFLY GARDEN CLUB 48 GARDENING SESSIONS KNMBG Butterfly Garden, Memorial School ??? all ages Volunteers: Elementary School Gr. 2 to 6 Memorial School???s YOUTH GARDEN CLUB, ???COMMUNITY Gardening??? Families & Community volunteers, NJ YOUTH CORP, Warren Hills Reg. HS CLUBS: Key Club & Earth Rights Club, National Honor Society. 2 to 12 volunteers garden 2 to 3 hrs. per session. Tasks: weeding, planting, mulching, or painting fence sections with water seal. Some plant labels were added throughout the quarter-acre pollinator garden. 8 YOUTH GARDEN CLUB MEETINGS after school: Environmental Education, floral design, arts and crafts, & gardening for Memorial School Gr. 2 to 6 students, plus teen volunteers in grades 7 to 12. KNMBG Board Meetings are held every 2 to 3 months year-round by zoom or in-person. 6 COMMUNITY OUTREACH public events involved displaying a Youth Education Exhibit with crafts and hands-on activities. ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY GROUPS served: KNMBG Pres.Tomas Gonzales assisted the Washington Boro GREEN TEAM with plant info, designing a wildlife habitat garden at the WASHINGTON PUBLIC LIBRARY. Two Girl Scout Gold Award recipients were honored by their Girl Scout Council; KNMBG Pres/Youth Chair, Diana Dove served as their Gold Award Project Advisor. KAREN NASH MEMORIAL BUTTERFLY GARDEN The front cover of the 2024 Warren County Official Directory features a photo of our KNMBG Butterfly Garden. Other photos: FB page, Washington Messenger articles, the school & garden website, and the school yearbook. The KNMBG is registered as a local chapter of the Garden Club of NJ/ National Garden Club Inc. Three KNMBG Youth Gardeners won Garden Club of NJ First Place Youth Awards representing their grade levels in the National Garden Club Youth Sculpture Contest creating art objects from recyclable materials. After collecting plastic for TREX, the Washington Woman???s Club presented us with a TREX Bench. A BAT HOUSE replaced the old one. A FREE LITTLE LIBRARY is stocked with Gr. 2-6 books in our Garden: nature, wildlife, science, and gardening. Since groundbreaking of our garden in May 1997, the garden has been cared for 100% by volunteers of all ages. ages and we are self-sustaining raising the funds to maintain the garden including an ongoing Clothing Drive. Maddalena???s Cheesecake fundraiser in Dec. 2024 was successful. Wildlife Habitat/Pollinator Garden Certifications: National Wildlife Association, the National Garden Club Inc, North Am. Butterfly Association & more. Garden volunteers include over 45 Youth Garden Club Families and teens, plus 17 registered Adult GC members. The KNMBG Garden Inc. maintains a Facebook page, its own website, and posts announcements in the school online newsletter and the monthly calendar of the Washington Messenger. We took children outside... to garden!”
