Metro West Council of Government

“All municipalities within kane, kendall, and dekalb counties are eligible to become members of metro west. Each member is represented on the board by its mayor or president, and its administrator or manager, if they have one. The municipalities pay annual membership dues to become members of metro west council of government.”

“The executive committee has authority to act on behalf of the full board if a situation arises in between meetings, which must be dealt with before the next meeting. The board votes on and elects the executive committee. The board consists of the mayor/president and manager/administrator of each member municipality.”

“Annually, conflict of interest forms are distributed to all board members. After collecting the completed forms, we note which indicate a conflict of interest. The executive director reviews them. We maintain a file on these and review them if we are taking any action that could trigger a conflict of interest. If that occurs, the executive director will notify the affected board member and the board president and the affected board member will then be excluded from any votes on that issue.”

The organization provides research and technical assistance in the development of solutions to local issues presented by member municipalities. The council provides training and educational programs designed to foster leadership development and an understanding of municipal issues. The council coordinates growth and transportation issues affecting the regions they serve. The council also upholds and advocates principles of effective local government. Finally, the council performs an and all such other acts considered necessary or desirable to carry out the above objectives.”
