“The explanation below is taken from the "combined financial statements and supplementary information" for loma linda university medical center and affiliates years ended june 30,2018 and june 30, 2017. Llufp is included with loma linda university medical center in the "combined financial statements and supplementary information. The principal operations of llumc are exempt from taxation pursuant to internal revenue code section 501(c)(3) and the related state provisions. Accounting standards codification (asc) topic 740, income taxes, clarifies the accounting for income taxes by prescribing a minimum recognition threshold that a tax position is required to meet before being recognized in the financial statements. Asc 740 also provides guidance on derecognition, measurement, classification, interest and penalties, disclosure, and transition. The guidance is applicable to pass-through entities and tax-exempt organizations. No significant liability for tax benefits, interest, or penalties was accrued or needed to be accrued at june 30, 2018 or 2017. Llumc currently files form 990 (informational return of organizations exempt from income taxes) and form 990-t (business income tax return for an exempt organization) in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction and the state of california for each tax-exempt organization as appropriate. Llumc is not subject to income tax exemination prior to 2014 in major jurisdictions. The tax cuts and jobs act (the act) was enacted on december 22, 2017. The provisions of the act do not have a material tax effect on llumc's combined financial statements. Certain regulatory guidance provides for a measurement period of up to one year, during which accounting for the tax effects of the act may be completed. Llumc will continue to evaluate the impact of the act and may record adjustments as additional information and guidance is released by the internal revenue service on provisions of the act that impacts tax-exempt organizations.”
