DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Youth Bicycle Education and Safety Training (BEST) Program The Youth BEST Program is a no-cost statewide effort to teach kids how to safely and confidently get around by bicycle. During the 5-hour, hands-on program for 5th through 7th graders, children learn how to stay safe while riding their bicycle. Over the course of the program, kids learn the benefits of riding a bicycle, the rules of the road, how to adjust and wear a helmet, how to navigate intersections, how to avoid hazards, and how to make sure their bike is in safe working order. This program launched in September 2016. By the end of 2016, 619 children across Utah had participated in the program. To date, more than 2,360 children have participated in the program and we are closing in on our goal of reaching 3,000 children annually. The outcomes from this program have been$40,271$40,271
Utah Bike Summit In March 2016, Bike Utah hosted the eighth annual Utah Bike Summit, which is the statewide bicycle conference. The program included sessions addressing the creation of safe bicycle networks, the nexus of active transportation and public health, creating must-have pieces of bicycle infrastructure, wayfinding, and the Road Respect Communities Program, among other subjects. The 2016 Utah Bike Summit had more than 250 attendees. The Utah Bike Summit gives cyclists and other interested individuals the opportunity to come together in one place and learn from each other about safety, promotion of the bicycle as a healthy means of transportation, and many other concepts. The Utah Bike Summit has become the seminal bicycle event in Utah and sets the tone as bicyclists hit the roads, paths, and trails in the spring.$0$22,050
Mobile Active Transportation Tours In 2016, Bike Utah completed its third year of producing the Mobile Active Transportation Tour (MATT) series of educational events. Each of the MATTs educates planners, engineers, elected officials, advocates, and the general public as to how they can plan, build, fund, and maintain bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in order to encourage more widespread, safer engagement in active transportation. In 2016, there were five tours across Utah (Bluffdale, Salt Lake City, Lehi, Logan). Attendance ranged from 30 to more than 50 participants and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. In addition to the tours in Utah, we hosted a tour in Fort Collins and Boulder, Colorado, which are two platinum designated Bicycle Friendly Communities.$1,369$1,369
