HOUSING:The organization owns a six bedroom house in Golden Valley, MN. During the current year, the Organization provided transitional housing for ten men at said "Verus Community House" (formerly called Alpha House). All but one of the men who lived at Verus Community House during the year were graduates of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Minneapolis, MN. Up to five men at a time reside at Verus Community House. The onsite Resident Manager randomly tests the residents for drug and alcohol use and is also responsible for monitoring the activities of all residents. He works directly with the President of Verus Community for the purpose of directing the activities of the house and collecting monthly rent on the first of each month ($425-$475 per month per resident). The residents are also responsible for caring for the physical needs and upkeep of the the house and its property. Not one resident of the Verus Community House relapsed in the 2015-2016 fiscal year.EMPLOYMENT:The Organization either assists members of Verus Community House in finding employment or actually employs them through an online book sales program that sells donated books, CDs and DVDs through Amazon. Due to lower sales during the 2015-2016 fiscal year the Organization was unable to provide employment opportunities in the book business. The Organization also assists Verus Community House residents in the preparation of job resumes and applications and has numerous connections with employers who are inclined to hire residents of the house who are recommended for employment.MENTORING AND TEACHING:Once each week the President and a consulting psychologist (Thomas Berscheid) meet with the men at Verus Community House for a meal and openly discuss how the residents are doing in their recovery. The organization also encourages the residents of the house to take advantage of personal counseling and coaching with Mr. Berscheid at his private practice in Wayzata, MN. These professional services are provided to the residents free of charge. In addition, each resident of Verus Community House is required to meet regularly with a mentor/sponsor, attend Alcohol Anonymous meetings, and participate in a local church congregation. The Organization conducts a Tuesday evening class for all residents of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. In addition the president of Verus Community and members of Verus Community House regularly sponsor as well as provide mentoring for residents of the Salvation Army ARC.SERVING:The residents of Verus Community House are required to serve in various volunteer capacities. During the 2015-2016 fiscal year, the residents of Verus Community House engaged in the sponsoring and mentoring of men still in treatment for drug and alcohol addiction in the ARC. The men of the house periodically host afternoon/evening barbecue and fellowship events on the Verus Community House property for men in treatment at the ARC followed by an AA Big Book Meeting. Each month the staff of Verus Community and the men of Verus Community House assist in the feeding of lower income people and the homeless in the North Minneapolis area at New Bethel Baptist Church through a partnership with an organization called Loaves And Fishes. The Verus Community House men also assist the staff in organizing and hosting the annual Verus Community Golf Challenge, the Organizations primary fund-raising event of the year.On weekends the men of Verus house who are graduates from the Salvation Army ARC take residents of the ARC disk golfing, bowling, to movies and on other recreational activities.$0$52,682
