IRS990/Desc0THE PRIMARY MEDICAL CONDITIONS FACING PATIENTS AND FAMILIES IN NEED OF HAVENHOUSE'S HOUSING AND SUPPORT INCLUDE PREMATURE BIRTH, CANCER TREATMENTS, ORTHOPEDIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERIES, CARDIAC CARE, REHABILITATION THERAPIES, AND TRANSPLANTS. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2014, THE ORGANIZATION SERVED 2,951 PATIENTS AND 7,905 PEOPLE IN ALL, WITH FAMILY MEMBERS FOR A TOTAL OF 8,046 NIGHTS FROM 50 STATES AND 54 COUNTRIES.BY PROVIDING BASIC NECESSITIES TO THOSE IN GREATEST NEED, THE ORGANIZATION IS ENABLING ACCESS TO MEDICAL CARE. BY ALLEVIATING THESE BASIC CONCERNS, PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE WILLING TO PURSUE THE MEDICAL TREATMENT NECESSARY FOR A HEALTHY FUTURE. AS FAMILY-CENTERED CARE CONTINUES TO EMERGE IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINE, THE ORGANIZATION'S FAMILY-CENTERED CARE APPROACH SETS THEM APART FROM MANY HOSPITALITY HOUSES. BECAUSE EACH FAMILY IS UNIQUE AND JOURNEYS INTO HEALTHCARE WITH DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES, CULTURES, RELIGIONS, BELIEFS AND EDUCATIONAL LEVELS, FAMILY-CENTERED CARE BRIDGES THE COMMUNICATION DIVIDE BETWEEN PATIENT AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDER. FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONSISTENT, CLOSE PROXIMITY WHICH HAS BEEN SHOWN TO: 1) HELP SPEED PATIENT RECOVERY; 2) LOWER COSTS DUE TO EMOTIONAL AND OTHER STRESSORS THAT ACCOMPANY ILLNESS; 3) INCREASE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PATIENT, FAMILY AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDER, WHICH LOWERS RISKS OF INFECTIONS, OTHER COMPLICATIONS AND HOSPITAL RE-ADMISSIONS. HAVENHOUSE OFFERS A COMPASSIONATE SETTING WHERE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND AND STAFF IS AVAILABLE AROUND-THE-CLOCK.SINCE ITS INCEPTION, HAVENHOUSE ST. LOUIS HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE HEALTHCARE HOSPITALITY NETWORK, WHICH DEVELOPS BEST PRACTICES, TRAINING AND EDUCATION FOR HOSPITALITY HOUSES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. HAVENHOUSE IS ALSO ONE OF ONLY 200 ST. LOUIS ACCREDITED CHARITIES THAT MEET ALL 20 OF THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU'S WISE GIVING "STRONG AND COMPREHENSIVE" STANDARDS FOR FISCAL MANAGEMENT, BOARD GOVERNANCE, TRUTHFULNESS, TRANSPARENCY AND EFFECTIVE FOCUS ON ITS MISSION. THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO HOST THEIR QUARTERLY HOSPITAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE MEETINGS TO IDENTIFY HOW THEY CAN BETTER COORDINATE WITH HOSPITALS AND BETTER SERVE THEIR PATIENTS. HOSPITALS ARE REPRESENTED ON THIS COMMITTEE BY THE HEAD OF THE SOCIAL WORK DEPARTMENT OR THE SPECIALTY DEPARTMENTS (SUCH AS ONCOLOGY). THESE REGULAR EFFORTS FROM KEY HOSPITAL STAFF TO SOLICIT FEEDBACK AND TO STRATEGIZE HELP HAVENHOUSE CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE THEIR SERVICE DELIVERY. BOARD OF DIRECTORS UNDERTOOK THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING A 3-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN IN APRIL 2014 AND IN NOVEMBER 2014, HAVENHOUSE TOOK THE INITIATIVE TO ORGANIZE QUARTERLY MEETINGS OF THE PRINCIPALS OF ALL THE ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL HOSPITALITY HOUSES. THIS WILL FOSTER GREATER COOPERATION AND ALSO ENABLE THEM TO SHARE BEST PRACTICES AND OTHER TIPS ABOUT HOW TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE SERVICES THEY OFFER PATIENTS AND FAMILIES. IN FISCAL YEAR 2014, 1,400 INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP VOLUNTEERS SUPPORTED HAVENHOUSE BY PROVIDING MANY KEY FUNCTIONS, INCLUDING WEEKEND MEAL DONATIONS, IT, WEBSITE, RECEPTIONIST, FUND-RAISING, MAINTENANCE AND LANDSCAPE BEAUTIFICATION. VOLUNTEER GROUPS INCLUDED OUR STRONG YOUNG PROFESSIONALS BOARD, CHURCHES, SYNAGOGUES, SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, BUSINESSES AND CIVIC CLUBS. HAVENHOUSE ADDITIONALLY BENEFITED FROM MANY THIRD-PARTY EVENTS HELD BY COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE ST. LOUIS AREA. HAVENHOUSE STAFF IS SMALL; VOLUNTEERS ON-SITE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR DONATED HOURS EQUIVALENT TO $125,934 IN SALARY SAVINGS.
