“All students who attended received at least a partial discount, with 5,180 students receiving free admission based on their eligibility for the federal free and reduced public school meals program. In 2015, the mary p. Reese community access fund was established at the paramount to support access to its education and arts programming for diverse audiences in our community. The fund provides outreach and scholarship opportunities to students and members of our community who otherwise might be unable to access the paramount's events and programs. In 2017-18, more than 1,200 outreach tickets were offered to more than 70 events through nearly 35 community groups thanks to this fund. In addition to the performances noted, the paramount theater provided 30 historical tours of the building, which over 235 participants enjoyed free of charge. Additionally, the paramount continued to offer a full season of the metropolitan opera live in hd series, other educational screenings, many free community events, and other live broadcast events of community significance. Approximately 50 local nonprofit organizations presented a wide range of performing arts, educational, civic and fundraising events at the theater at a discounted rental rate. In addition to its own events and those of its renters, the paramount is an economic generator, bringing vital dining and retail traffic to charlottesville's downtown pedestrian mall. In a recent 2017 americans for the arts study, it was calculated that patrons of the paramount, on average, spend an additional 30 above the cost of each ticket on food, travel, lodging, etc. With approximately 100,000+ patrons annually, this translates to a local impact of 3+ million in local spending. The estimated total spending by cultural audiences in charlottesville is 61 million per year, meaning the paramount accounts for 5% of annual local spending.”

APPROXIMATELY 300 PERFORMANCES WERE STAGED IN THE 2017-18 FISCAL YEAR, INCLUDING THE 2017-18 ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAM, WHICH PRESENTED 23 LIVE EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR TO 18,515 STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS FROM LOCAL AREA PUBLIC, PRIVATE, AND HOME SCHOOL GROUPS. ALL STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED RECEIVED AT LEAST A PARTIAL DISCOUNT, WITH 5,180 STUDENTS RECEIVING FREE ADMISSION BASED ON THEIR ELIGIBILITY FOR THE FEDERAL FREE AND REDUCED PUBLIC SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAM.
