| IRS990/Desc | 0 | JGB Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services Inc. is a unique organization that provides behavioral health services specifically tailored to the needs of people with or at risk for vision loss and other disabilities. The goal of these programs is to support individuals with emotional challenges and psychiatric disorders so they can live productive lives as independently as possible. The four behavioral health programs are designated by New York State as Vital Access/Safety Net Providers, due to the number of Medicaid patients served who have extremely high needs. The programs include: Manhattan Psychiatric Clinic and Brooklyn Satellite Clinic: These clinics are the only psychiatric clinics in the country offering behavioral health services specifically for children and adults who are blind or visually impaired, at risk for vision loss, physically disabled, seriously mentally ill, or have traumatic brain injury. The programs effectively serve people with depression, anxiety, and fear associated with sensory and functional loss. Services include individual, couples, group, and family psychotherapy; psychiatric evaluations and neuropsychological testing; medication management; coordination of medical and wellness care; and 24/7 crisis intervention. In 2016, the clinic provided 12,757 sessions to approximately 375 clients. Continuing Day Treatment Program: This program serves people with serious and persistent mental illness, physical disabilities (including those with or at risk for vision loss), and chronic medical illnesses. One-third of clients have diabetes; other common conditions include asthma, HIV, obesity, substance abuse, and tobacco use. Team members work to prevent psychiatric and medical hospitalizations and help people stay in their communities by overcoming disabilities and learning skills. In 2015, 57 clients were helped through 9,158 sessions. Developmental Disabilities Day Treatment Program: This program is the only one in New York City that provides behavioral health services to developmentally disabled people who are also blind or visually impaired, deaf, or physically disabled. Services help clients with sensory and communication challenges to improve and maintain skills and continue to live safely in their own homes, in their families' homes, or in supported apartments and residences. Clients benefit from independent living skills training, medical oversight, nursing care, nutritional guidance, psychosocial support, recreation, and transportation. In 2015, 93 clients were helped through 19,198 sessions. This program closed in May 2016. Mental Health Liaison Program: This program identifies GuildNet members with mental health needs and refers them for behavioral health and other services; facilitates the coordination of care between GuildNet and community mental healthcare providers; provides crisis intervention support; initiates referrals to psychiatric mobile crisis teams; and reviews discharge plans with inpatient psychiatric staff. The program is coordinated by licensed master's degree-level social workers who assess GuildNet members via telephone. |
