Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

The jewish healthcare foundation of pittsburgh (jhf) shall be entitled to appoint either: (i) two members to the board of directors if the total number of directors is less than fifteen; or (ii) three members to the board of directors if the total number of directors is 15 or greater, provided that such appointments are consistent with the paragraphs below. If a board seat is vacated before the term has expired due to removal/resignation of a jhf designee, the jhf shall have the right to appoint a new board member to fill the vacancy. The jhf may remove any jhf designee with or without cause.

Squirrel hill health center provides patient-driven, high-quality, comprehensive, primary and preventive healthcare and support services, without regard for patients' insurance status or ability to pay. Significant activities include providing comprehensive, integrated, primary and preventive medical, behavioral health, and dental care to a growing population of underserved area residents. Shhc services patients from across allegheny county at three fixed sites, one in the pittsburgh neighborhood of squirrel hill, brentwood, and one in bellevue, pa, and at multiple sites served by its mobile medical unit, which brings the primary care clinician to isolated patients and communities. Current mobile unit sites include milestone inc., prospect park family center, mooncrest neighborhood program, alpha house, turtle creek, and passages. Shhc accepts medicaid, medicare, all major commercial insurance plans, and has a sliding fee scale available for income eligible uninsured and underinsured patients. No patient is turned away due to inability to pay for services.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is a nonprofit corporation as described in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (code) and is recognized as tax exempt under 501(a) of the code. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been provided. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require the organization to evaluate tax positions taken by the organization and recognize a tax liability or asset if the organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would be sustained upon examination by the internal revenue services (irs). The organization has concluded that as of december 31, 2024 and 2023, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or asset or disclosure in the financial statements. Generally, tax returns for years ended december 31, 2021, and thereafter remain subject to examination by federal and state tax authorities.

SHHC PROVIDES PREVENTIVE, RESTORATIVE AND EMERGENCY DENTAL SERVICES AT THE SQUIRREL HILL LOCATION ONLY.
