“We educate and instill the values of hawaiian culture through language, chant and dance. We encourage the development of skills and knowledge as being part of a caring, respectful community, bringing awareness and sensitivity to perpetuate all things hawaiian. Our goal is to build self- confidence with a greater understanding and connection to our ancestral ways. Thus with a strong foundation through education, we will ensure a secure future, and enduring pride in hawaiian culture.”

“Instruction is done through the use of traditional hawaiian instruments such as gourds, drums, string instruments, and other implements such as uli uli (rattle gourd), ipu (gourd), ili'ili (flat stones), puili (split bamboo), kala'au (sticks), and ukulele instrument playing. Eleven classes are held each week serving keiki students from ages three to seventeen, as well as instruction for adults. During 2017, halau hula kauluokala performed community events including kama'aina nights, picnic for poke, aloha ukulele festival on kaua'i. We attended halau a ola workshop in preparation for an event in 2018 where na halau around the globe will have an opportunity to participate on hawaii island. Our halau performed to raise funds for ka'ahumanu church celebrating 185 years as an icon and beacon in wailuku. We also performed for keawala'i congregational church in wailea for their annual fundraising. Our kupuna (women ages 55 and older) entered two (2) competitions in 2017. Both were in september. Ku mai ka hula was held on maui where the kapuna took 1st place. The mokihana festival was held on kaua'i, in which our kupuna took 1st place as a group, and our soloist took 2nd place. In december we held a ho'oike for our keiki to perform what they learned through the year to their family.”
