As the Organization is not a membership organization the fifth factor is not applicable.Percentage of public support and attracting public support: The Organizations public support is approximately 20%, meaningfully above the 10% facts and circumstances threshold. The Organization intends to be publicly supported and is actively engaged in activities that are intended to attract new and additional public support. Fundraising from public sources was suspended temporarily during the pandemic because public projects committed for funding were delayed and the funds had already been secured for these public projects. The Organization expects its public support % to increase in future years. Availability of public facilities or services: The Organization continues to work towards providing services that benefit the public. The first public project is the research, writing and publication of research and writing a comprehensive book on the architects Bliss & Faville who designed over 100 noteworthy commercial and residential buildings establishing San Francisco as a city in the early twentieth century. Several of these buildings are on the National Registry of Historic Places including at least one in Nevada. The primary researcher and author of the book encountered understandable delays in his work given the closure of many research facilities during the pandemic. The book (over 300 pages with 125 photographs, notes, bibliography and index) will be published in January 2026 for a general audience. This work was supported broadly by funds raised between 2013 2022.Second, historic preservation projects focused on the preservation of 640 Sutter Street for which the Foundation has traditionally raised funds from a broad public were delayed by the pandemic and a change in leadership in the organization which owns 640 Sutter Street. Grants for two historic preservation projects were made in 2025 from funds raised between 2018 2022 and strategies for resumed fundraising may now be implemented.Representative governing body: The governing body of the Foundation is composed of seven people who have deep expertise in historic preservation, finance and banking, and fundraising. They are involved in a variety of civic and nonprofit organizations. Until her unfortunate passing in December 2023, one member of the board of directors was the preeminent preservation advocate in San Francisco who was also chair of the San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission for many years. The board regularly consults with historic preservation experts and architects who for professional reasons cannot serve on the board. All members of the board serve in a volunteer capacity. |
