Activity 2

Youth philanthropy council project- in the spring of 2010 the norwich high school youth philanthropy council (ypc), a collaborative effort of the chenango united way, the community foundation for south central new york, the upstate insititute at colgate university and the norwich high school, granted its second round of funding to local organziations. The ypc was comprised of 12 junior and senior level high school students who met on a bi-weekly basis to learn about the chenango community. Mentored by colgate university students, these high school students spent their year writing an rfp (request for proposal) through which they solicited grant proposals from local health and human service agencies seeking to break the cycle of poverty in chenango county by providing education to low income families. In may 2010, the students awarded funds to three programs addressing these issues of family self sufficiecy.

Activity 3

Chenango county hunger initiative- through a partnership with frontier communications and the chenango united way, funds were allocated to more than 18 chenango county food pantries and soup kitchens in 2012 to help purchase, prepare, and distribute food to needy families throughout chenango county.
