The form 990 is subject to review by the audit committee of the board of trustees prior to being filed. It is also made available on the trustees portal for the perusal of all trustees during the period in which it is under review, prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The board of trustees and officers of sbu are required to adhere to a conflict of interest policy. The policy requires that any conflicts are self-disclosed and additional conflicts and potential conflicts are monitored through the vice-presidential offices and office of the president. When a conflict is present at the board level, the trustee will abstain from voting.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

An external compensation consulting firm is periodically retained to assist with analysis of officer compensation. The firm reviews officer job descriptions and establishes a recommended salary range based on relevant benchmark data. Benchmark data used includes the college and university personnel association survey and it is supplemented by data in specific industries and/or local data. The compensation committee of the board of trustees reviews the data with the firm and sets the president's compensation.

The university has started masters of social work and edd programs during the year. The edd program is a terminal degree featuring coursework about educational leadership, combining research and theory with real-world application for a comprehensive education. The masters of social work is designed around promoting values grounded in commitment to service, respect for human dignity, and engagement in critical inquiry.

The university has ended two masters programs, analytics (ms) 11 students, and leadership (ma) 12 students. Students in those programs are being taught out, but the university will no longer enroll students in these programs.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The university's collections, which consist of contributions received since the university's inception, are not recognized as assets on the balance sheet. The university's collections include paintings, sculpture, pottery, glass, woodcarvings, drawings, and other works. The collections are held for educational, research, scientific, and curatorial purposes.

PART III, LINE 4:

Located on the campus of the university, the regina a. Quick center for the arts has as its mission to offer both the university community and the general public a program of professional, culturally diverse arts events and exhibitions of the highest artistic quality reflecting the values of the university and its curriculum. To that end, the center collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets historic and contemporary visual art and cultural artifacts and maintains active outreach to a wide community in the second most underdeveloped county in new york state and the six contiguous counties of the southern tier of western new york and northern pennsylvania. The university's collections include over 3,000 works of art dating from several hundred years before the birth of christ into the 21st century, representing european, american, asian and mesoamerican cultures. The collections include paintings, sculpture, pottery, glass, woodcarvings, drawings and other works on paper in all print media. An installation of over 250 works are on permanent display augmented by ten or more additional temporary exhibitions produced yearly from both loan sources and the university's own holdings. The collections reflect the university's mission through its breadth and depth. We believe our holdings represent an extraordinary resource in an economically challenged community with little access to cultural resources.

Endowment funds are available for scholarships, quick arts center, franciscan programs, research, academics, athletics, teaching, and other programs.
