The Children & Nature Network is leading a movement to connect all children, their families and communities to nature through innovative ideas, evidence-based resources and tools, broad-based collaboration and support of grassroots leadership. THE CHILDREN & NATURE NETWORK (C&NN) WAS CREATED TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT THE PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO RECONNECT CHILDREN WITH NATURE. C&NN PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE LATEST NEWS AND RESEARCH IN THE FIELD AND A PEER TO PEER NETWORK OF RESEARCHERS, INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS, EDUCATORS, BUSINESS LEADERS, POLICY MAKERS AND OTHERS DEDICATED TO CHILDRENS HEALTH AND WELL BEING. C&NN BUILDS AWARENESS, PROVIDES ACCESS TO STATE OF THE ART RESOURCES, DEVELOPS AND DISSEMINATES INNOVATIVE THOUGHT LEADERSHIP, SUPPORTS GRASSROOTS LEADERS WITH TOOLS AND PEER TO PEER NETWORKING, DEVELOPS PUBLICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, SYNTHESIZES THE BEST AVAILABLE RESEARCH AND ENCOURAGES COLLABORATION. SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 2006, C&NN HAS FOSTERED GRASSROOTS INITIATIVES IN MORE THAN 100 CITIES, STATES, PROVINCES AND NATIONS.

Activity 3

Grass roots campaigns have been launched or are assembling to connect children with nature. These grassroots coalitions work on the state, regional and local level to create shared strategic visions and plans and to map out a process for implementation. Regional strategies include:public awareness campaigns and community events;public education and advocacy. Each effort increases the number of people and organizations participating in and taking action to reconnect children with nature. Since 2009, these campaigns report getting more than 8 million children and youth outdoors in nature, with 3 million estimated in 2012 alone, and 1 million of those being underserved children and youth.
