Wmht has 2 radio services - wext (97.7) a aaa-format, and wmht-fm a classical music station. Wmht-fm provides comprehensive classical music programming, combining original productions, distinctive speciality programs, live concert presentations and the talents of locally and nationally-recognized hosts. The classical music station wmht-fm is located at 89.1 in new york's capital region and on wrhv-fm 88.7 in the poughkeepsie area (and also available via hd radio), wmht helps keep the arts thriving in our community by making wonderful classical music accessible to all. Wmht and wrhv airs renowned programs such as'bach's lunch,'performance today,''symphony cast' and 'wmht live!' along with npr news updates. Wmht also operates'rise' which is a 24 hour radio information service for the blind and print disabled in new york's capital region and hudson valley.besides wmht/wrhv and rise, wmht also operates 97.7 wext whose focus is on emerging artists, classic songs that regular radio has forgotten, especially music from the region (the local 518).

Activity 3

Education services: what distinguishes wmht and pbs from other broadcasters is our public service commitment to fostering lifelong learning. This commitment is reflected in our on-air educational programs, our online services and the work we do within the community. An established pbs affiliate serving eastern nys and areas of western new england, wmht-tv offers a rich array of educational children's television programs from sesame street to curious george to newer favorites like super why! We continued our work with some of the region's youngest learners through our ready to learn program, an ongoing series of workshops for parents, teachers and pre-service teachers and a host of parent/child engagement activities. The program seeks to strengthen early literacy and math literacy growth and development. In response to our partners' requests, we launched a new series of kitchen science workshops this past year, where children and parents work to explore the world of science with hands-on activities in a collaborative learning environment. As always, our work was enriched by partners from diverse communities including public and private schools, faith based organizations, head start programs, child care centers, museums, libraries and many more. 2013 saw the official launch of vital new york powered by pbs learningmedia. In collaboration with the other new york state public television stations, were able to provide free of charge an online library of more than 35,000 resources from the best of public television for teachers to use in classrooms. These resources, featuring media from nova, frontline, design squad, american experience and educational partners such as the national archives and nasa are easy to use and align to national and common core standards. As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening teaching and learning in the 21st century classroom we were proud to once again be a major sponsor of the games in education symposium, a unique opportunity to hear teachers from across the nation share their experiences in utilizing games and other new media in a range of curricula. Our professional development workshops for educators continued to offer a hands-on introduction to public media resources, and information about how to integrate media into instruction and teach media literacy. In support of stem education as a vital part of our region's future, wmht co-sponsored a girls in stem event where participants enjoyed a day of discovery, knowledge & inspiration! This free event was open to young girls in grades 4-8 and their parents. Participants learned from talented women about the exciting career opportunities in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (stem) and how they make a world of difference.
