Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 1

The president only votes to break a tie of the voting members.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

Members are commercial and marketing employees of specific telephone companies.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

Election of the board by the union members occurs every three years by secret ballot. A member of the board is appointed only when a vacancy occurs during the term of office. The executive board appoints the new member.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

Each board member receives a copy of the 990 for review and any corrections or changes they feel are necessary are made before the return is filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The board members review and sign the conflict of interest policy statements annually. If a conflict is noted, the non-interested members vote on how to proceed with the situation at that time.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Compensation for all employees is not determined by ibew. Employees are paid at the rate they earn at their respective companies. Employees who have retired from their respective companies are paid at the rate of the job they retired from.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Documents are available upon request at the organization's address.

Supplemental Narrative

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The union is a tax exempt organization qualifying under internal revenue code section 501(c) (5). Accordingly, and under similar requirements of new york state law, no provision has been made for federal or state taxes. For tax-exempt entities, their tax-exempt status itself is deemed to be an uncertainty, since events could potentially occur to jeopardize their tax-exempt status. As of september 30, 2014 and 2013, the union did not have a liability for unrecognized tax benefits. The organization files tax returns in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction and new york state. The tax years that remain subject to examination are generally the previous three years.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE UNION IS A TAX EXEMPT ORGANIZATION QUALIFYING UNDER INTERNAL REVENUE CODE SECTION 501(C) (5).
