Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 5

During the first quarter of 2021, the new executive team hired a forensic accountant to investigate a potential diversion of organization funds by an individual in a high managerial position. The suspected conduct included, but was not limited to; charging personal items to the organization credit card, inaccurately accounting for vacation and sick time and consequently getting overpaid for both, and using organization assets for personal non work related matters. This conduct spanned at least 6 years. While the actual dollars diverted have not be completely quantified at this point, it is believed to be in excess of $250,000. The investigation was turned over to a prosecutorial agency. The suspected individual was terminated and other safeguards have been put in place.
