Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Bolivia:In July 2015, WRF co-sponsored with Prosthetika, a two-week training program at the FUNPROBO in Bolivia, the goal was of working hand in hand with the local staff and other volunteers to fit the more challenging patients that they were working as well as to assess their techniques, and capabilities and to offer help in this area as well.In the two weeks that trainers were there, they directly fit six lower extremity amputees, two upper extremity amputees, and two children who required orthotic devices. The main goal of this project was to work together with locals and to train the local technicians. Subsequently, hundreds of Bolivian amputees will benefit from these training. IMPACT:The trainers demonstrated a variety of techniques in responding to varying conditions that were commonly seen by the facility, which dealt with issues that the local team felt they could benefit from some technical assistance. Six patients were selected for special intervention and they ranged in age from 18 months old to 78 years old.An elderly gentleman who required an above the knee prosthesis on one limb and a below the knee device was fitted with prostheses.A hip disarticulation in an 18 months old child was successfully fit with the prosthesis.A male patient with a very short above the knee amputation, was successfully fitted with ischial containment design to maximize stabilizing and weight bearing surfaces.A demonstration and fitting of an ischial containment technique was completed for a female patient. The Trainers participated in a demonstration of the value and use of silicone liners for sockets and an orthotic technique for children with cerebral palsy. The Trainers participated in an exciting and innovative demonstration of the use and value of 3D printing to fabricate hands for persons who had lost or badly damaged hands. Two patients were fitted with this innovate techniques. Mexico:In another WRF/ProsthetiKa collaboration, an assessment visit was made to the ARSOBO; a Prosthetics/Orthotics Program located in Nogales, Mexico. ARSOBO is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Mexico. The organization provides assistances to persons with disabilities who are disabled and economically challenged. It has developed a workshop and clinic which provides quality custom prosthetic devices, wheelchairs, and hearing aids at affordable prices, subsidizing the cost for the economically disadvantaged. In Addition, (ARSOBO trains and employs individuals with disability to build the medical devices the clinic provided). On behalf of WRF and Prosthetika, Jon Batzdorf and Filipe Villanueva visited the facility. They observed that there are many potential clients, but the staff is limited in expertise. It is hoped that funding can be obtained to support several short-term training sessions. However, a more intense intervention including the hiring of a temporary chief of services is being recommended as well as the development of a vocational rehabilitation component. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: ECUADOR:In 2015 WRF and its partner, Prosthetika, provided state-of the-art training to two Prosthetics and Orthotics professionals at a clinic in Ecuador. At the clinic, each month, they fitted 35 patients with orthotic and prosthetic devices. This year, the clinic was relocated and new equipment was purchased. The new relocated clinic is named, Prtesis Imbabura. WRF donated a router and dust collector at the request of Bob Frank, the American prosthetist who helped found the program there. The new clinic is doing very well and its successfully serving persons with disabilities in Northern Ecuador. This is the only such program available for persons living in that part of Ecuador

IRS990/Desc0LEBANON: Addressing the critical needs of thousands of disabled Syrian refugees.WRF has been working in Lebanon for over 30 years, where it is the major international non-governmental organization working in the field of disability. Over the years, WRF Lebanon has transformed the lives of thousands of persons with disabilities (PWD), implementing a wide range of rehabilitation programs to meet expanding needs, including the needs of landmine survivors and victims of war. WRFs programs allowed for the provision of emergency assistance, capacity building, institutional and organizational development, research, advocacy, and the creation of economic opportunities that are essential for rehabilitation and socio-economic integration. Many of WRFs activities in Lebanon were developed with the support of USAID and The Leahy War Victims Fund. At the present time, WRF Lebanon projects are funded by individual contributors and UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA). Currently, WRFs is focusing on the urgent needs of Syrian refugees with disabilities and their peers in the Lebanese host community IMPACT:The continued violence in Syria has resulted in over 4.8 million refugees fleeing to neighboring countries, close to one-third of them to Lebanon. WRF Lebanon responded to the crisis by being proactively involved in coordination efforts among local and international humanitarian agencies helping Syrian refugees with disabilities and PWD in host communities in Lebanon though its Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. In addition, WRF, with funding from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, implemented an Emergency Assistance Program that provided prosthetic and orthotic devices and rehabilitation services to PWD among refugees from Syria and within the Lebanese communities. WRF also provided eyeglasses and vision correction devices and hearing aids for children with visual and hearing impairments. A total of 853 PWDs were provided with rehabilitation devices and prosthetic and orthotic devices. With a gift from Mrs. Ted Bustany, WRF-Lebanon provided 25 eyeglasses and vision correction devices and 29 hearing aids for children with hearing impairments.WRF is a founding member of the Disability and Older Age Working group (DaOAWG).This group was founded to promote coordination and advocacy to benefit persons with disabilities and elderly. WRF continues to lead DaOAWG, coordinating members of DaOAWG to identify gaps in disability, identify persons with special needs, and coordinate referral and services.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Bolivia:In July 2015, WRF co-sponsored with Prosthetika, a two-week training program at the FUNPROBO in Bolivia, the goal was of working hand in hand with the local staff and other volunteers to fit the more challenging patients that they were working as well as to assess their techniques, and capabilities and to offer help in this area as well.In the two weeks that trainers were there, they directly fit six lower extremity amputees, two upper extremity amputees, and two children who required orthotic devices.

The Association has organized some 45 grass roots organizations that employ and train persons of vulnerable backgrounds (e.g., disabled, human trafficking victims, single parents, etc.) to produce craft items reflecting the culture of their country. AAC is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) Asia, HomeNet South East Asia and the Cambodia National Silk Board. To learn more visit www.aac.org.kh.AAC continue providing training and technical assistance in a variety of subjects related to the crafts industry. This includes design, sales, inventory control, shop and fair displaying, pricing, fair trade principles and marketing.By strengthening its member organizations, increasing the quality of their products and their ability to market these crafts, AAC enables higher wages and better working conditions for their employees the artisans and their support staff who are from vulnerable populations.Impact:AAC membership grew from its original four members to over 45 organizations.AAC member organizations employ more than 2,700 artisans from vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities; nearly three quarter all employees are Women.Nearly 60% of member organizations are managed by women. In addition to employing persons with disabilities, member organizations are employing persons with HIV/AIDS, women formerly involved in human trafficking, single mothers and others who had been living in poverty.Member organizations are in 10 different provinces of Cambodia. These organizations tend to be social enterprises who, in addition to producing crafts, provide specialized services to better the lives of women and children, to prevent human trafficking and to emphasize eco-friendly techniques in making their crafts.Total sales realized by AAC and member organizations reached 4.6 million dollars this Fiscal Year.Products of AAC members were sold this past year in the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and the United Kingdom
