The finance committee reviews staff compensation and periodically and compares it to vermont nonprofit benchmarks. During a prior fiscal year the board worked with executive search consultants to determine an appropriate salary for the position. They reviewed the common good vermont northern new england 2022 report on non-profit wages & benefits. As a result of this study other other management positions were adjusted accordingly.

The organization provides a comprehensive screening and matching service and ongoing support once people decide to homeshare. This allows elders and other people to stay at home while helping people find an affordable place to live.

Homeshare vermont helps the state of vermont meet two important goals by assisting our aging neighbors to age at home safely, while helping others find an affordable place to live. We provide a comprehensive service for those two groups with ongoing support. While there are no age or income restrictions for homesharing, most people sharing their homes (hosts) are elders or persons with a disability while most people looking for housing (guests) can't afford market rents. For hosts, homesharing decreases social isolation, delays or prevents nursing home moves in addition to helping out in myriad other ways including more manageable home upkeep, better nutrition and the peace of mind of another person's presence. For guests, homesharing can be a lifeline for folks who might be headed for homelessness, it can help them integrate into a new community and it can allow them to accept a job in a town that they might not have been able to take without an affordable housing option. Most of our participants (70% of hosts and 92% of guests) are low-income individuals. Our fy2025 outcomes report indicate that our clients really do value the service we provide, 80% report feeling happier, 79% felt safer and less lonely, 71% report enjoying their home more and 55% worry less about money. In fy 2025 homeshare served 990 vermonters and our matched participants saved a total of 1,441,370. Homeshare guests provided approximately 37,989 hours of assistance to seniors and others. This represents a savings of over 560,700 for those sharing their home and their families if they had to hire help (based on bls estimates). By sharing their homes, low income seniors and others received over 395,300 in rental income to help them make ends meet. The average rent in a homesharing match was 379 with 30% of guests paying 0 rent. Using the different between market rents and actual homeshare agreement rents, it is estimated that homeshare guests saved over 880,670 in rental expenses (based on fmr data from hud). Homeshare vermont is poised to expand our service area in fy26 to include an additional four counties and reach more vermonters than any time in our 43-year history.

The organization has adopted the provisions of financial accounting standards board's - accounting for uncertain income tax positions (fasb asc 740-10) as it might apply to the organization's financial transactions. The organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The june 30, 2024, 2023, and 2022 tax years are open for possible examination by the internal revenue service.
