Mission

The vision sciences society, inc. (vss) is committed to progress in understanding vision, and its relation to cognition, action and the brain. Our primary goal is to host a yearly meeting where both new and established investigators from diverse disciplines and scientific perspectives present and discuss their work in a relaxed informal setting. Our interdisciplinary nature is reflected by the board of directors and adstract review committee.

FOR 2015, 1,977 SCIENTISTS ATTENDED THE ANNUAL MEETING WHICH WAS HELD MAY 15-20, 2015 IN ST. PETE, FLORIDA AT THE TRADEWINDS ISLAND RESORT. THERE WERE OVER 1,400 PRESENTATIONS GIVEN AT THIS MEETING.THE SOCIETY ALSO GIVES OUT 20 TRAVEL AWARDS, $500 EACH TO GRADUATE STUDENTS, BASED ON AN ASSESSMENT OF THE APPLICANT'S ABSTRACT SUBMISSION, THEIR SUPERVISOR'S STATEMENT AND ON THE SCIENTIFIC MERIT OF THE WORK TO BE PRESENTED AT THE MEETING. VSS ALSO AWARDS A YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD EACH YEAR TO AN OUTSTANDING VISUAL SCIENTIST. THE WINNER IS CHOSEN BY AN OUTSIDE COMMITTEE OF FIVE ESTABLISHED VISUAL SCIENTISTS SELECTED FROM THE VSS MEMBERSHIP (APPOINTED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS). THE YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARDEE IS GIVEN $2,000.
