Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Iearn is a global educational network made up of national iearn organizations that facilitate educational programs involving technology-based interaction between students among member countries as part of the school experience. Each national iearn organization is responsible for its own financial administration, including income and expenses. Only in the region of countries with significant muslim populations, iearn usa works collaboratively with other national iearn organizations on a number of grant funded projects. These countries can be divided into africa, middle east, and south asia regions. Program activities in the forgoing regions are supported by pass through grants that are awarded to iearn usa.

Iearn (international education and resource network) is the u.s. Organization of the worldwide iearn international network. The primary purpose of iearn is to assist youth (with a focus on elementary and secondary education as well as youth service organizations) to use telecommunications to work on projects designed to make a meaningful contribution to the health and welfare of people and the planet.

The conflict of interest policy is an integral part of the responsibilities of each member of the governing body. Iearn usa recruits each member of the governing body according to this guideline and makes each potential member aware of the restrictions on conflict of interest at all times.

Iearn maintains an internal review process for each of the employees on an annual basis. Such a review consists of peer review and feedback, as well as supervisory evaluation and feedback. Any compensation adjustments will be based on the result of such process.

WHILE ON PROGRAM STUDENTS ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES TO LEARN ABOUT AMERICAN SOCIETY AND VALUES, ACQUIRE LEADERSHIP SKILLS, AND HELP EDUCATE AMERICANS ABOUT THEIR COUNTRIES AND CULTURES. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ENGAGE IN COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES WHILE THEY ARE IN THE U.S., WHICH IS AN EXPERIENCE AND VALUE THAT THEY OFTEN TAKE HOME TO THEIR COUNTRIES. IN ITS 10TH YEAR, THE YES PROGRAM WORKED TO STRENGTHEN ITS ALUMNI NETWORK OF OVER 7,300 YOUTH WORLDWIDE. AS PART OF THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION, IEARN-USA ORGANIZED SEVERAL REGIONAL DIGITAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS, SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS, A VIRTUAL FILM FESTIVAL AND A 10TH ANNIVERSARY VIRTUAL REUNION. THE REGIONAL DIGITAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS WERE HOSTED IN GHANA, QATAR, AND TURKEY. AS A CULMINATION OF THESE WORKSHOPS, 2013 ENDED WITH A VIRTUAL FILM FESTIVAL, WHICH SHOWCASED ALUMNI PRODUCED SHORT FILMS THAT TOLD THE STORY OF ALUMNI LED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS. THIS ONE-HOUR EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY 50 PEOPLE FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD. THE LAUNCH OF SEVERAL SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR NOT ONLY INCREASED AWARENESS OF THE PROGRAM BY TRIPLING THE NUMBER OF FOLLOWERS ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK, BUT ALSO CONNECTED ALUMNI ACROSS REGIONS AND FURTHER DEVELOPED THE IDENTITY OF THE YES ALUMNI PROGRAM WORLDWIDE. LASTLY, THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, ALUMNI IN BANGLADESH, CAMEROON, ISRAEL, LIBERIA, MALI, PAKISTAN, SENEGAL, SIERRA LEONE, AND SURINAME INITIATED MORE THAN 100 COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS IN THEIR HOME COMMUNITIES FOCUSING ON TOPICS SUCH AS HEALTH, GIRLS EDUCATION, RECYCLING, SANITATION, ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING, LEADERSHIP, ORPHANS, INTERFAITH DIALOGUE, AND THE ELDERLY.
