“Staten island ballet theater (sibt) provided professional programming designed to help enrich cultural experiences for all residents in the city's remote borough of 492,925 people, particularly among blacks, hispanics, and other marginalized groups. Programming in fiscal year 07/01/2024 - 06/20/2025 included year-round training in the ballet arts and staged ballet events at sibt's landmark studio building in the sea view farm colony historic district campus, and at the mainstage williamson theatre at the college of staten island center for the arts. Sibt provided 836 conservatory classes for students in grades 1-12 , as well as 8 adults. It produced 15 staged productions at two ada-compliant venues: the 440-seat williamson theatre, and in sibt's own 55-seat studio theater featuring risers, wings, stage led-lighting, a lobby, three restrooms, and private dressing rooms. Events included: (1)dance up series of original works in-progress and classical favorites from the repertoire , for a total of 6 shows in the intimate studio theater venue in the sea view/farm colony historic district. Tickets are 25 tickets 20; 07/20/2024, 3pm &7:30 pm; 07/27/2024, 3pm &7:30 pm; 05/25/2024, 3 pm & 7 pm; 06/15/2025, 1pm. Excerpts from the repertoire and new works-in-progress. (2) the nutcracker, 5 shows, williamson theatre, 12/12/2024, 5 pm; 12/14/2024 - 12/19/2025, 2 pm & 5pm; 1,768 paid tickets, 85 orchestra, 60 balcony. The 2-hour show used broadway sets in three acts, special effects and a cast of 24 professional dancers. Free tickets to sibt's mainstage production of the nutcracker were given to deserving recipients via sibt's network of community partners and our diversity director virginia allen, a respected black cultural leader and recent recipient of an honorary doctorate of letters from the collee of staten island. A total of 442 free tickets valued at 36260 were provided to sibt's outreach partners that serve a broad constituency. Group discounts of up to 30 percent were available to partner constituencies, but no group sales occurred during the period. Artists and technicians were also hired from the city's diverse talent pool, and paid industry scale wages as w-2 employees, with mandated benefits. Ballet classes were provided year-round monday through friday, 3 pm to 7 pm, and on saturday 9 am to 4 pm. A summer intensive of all-day classes was also provided to 24 students, monday-friday during three weeks in august 2025. Auditioning for college scholarships was also taught along with choreography pieces tailored to a student's strengths. Three students were offered scholarship aid at separate universities for the fall of 2025. Credits of teaching artists include marie fichaux (paris opera ballet, royal ballet); karina teran (balasole dance); michele moreno (national ballet of caracas, national ballet of cuba); jilian pizzi (barnard college- phi beta kappa, under katie glasner); ellen tharp (former manhattan ballet principal, graduate fordham-lincoln center and the american academy of dramatic arts, also stage and tv credits, member sag-aftra). Participants were reached through outreach by sibt partners, school referrals and online face book exposure, including two podcasts on the latest science in dance wellness. Scholarships totaling 19,400 (waived tuition) and ranging from 800 to 3,000, were awarded to 15 candidates based on talent, motivation and financial need, an average of 1,293. Markeketing relied on paid ads in newspapers, church bulletins, social media and sibt's mailing list of 2,400 ticket buyers and weekly email audience of 2,270 average supporters.”
