Governance Explanations

Form 990 governing body review Part VI line 11

The Form 990 is reviewed by the Board of Directors before it is filed.

Conflict of interest policy compliance Part VI line 12C

The Organization provides to all directors a copy of its Conflict of Interest Policy and each year, including FY25, obtains from each director a completed executed Annual Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement. Annual compliance with such policy is then monitored by the Board President. If potential conflicts are reported, these are reviewed with the Executive Committee and, if further action is suggested, brought to the full Board for consideration.

CEO executive director top management comp Part VI line 15A

Compensation of the Executive Director and the Board President is reviewed by the Executive Committee consisting of the officers of the Organization - based on such individuals achievements, the overall Organizations performance, and related supporting market data. Final compensation is approved by the Board in accordance with its approval of the Organizations operating budget. Other staff compensation is determined solely by the Executive Director, provided such costs are in accordance with the approved budget; any such variance from budgeted costs may be approved by the Executive Committee provided there is no material adverse change to operating performance.

Form 990 availability to public Part VI line 18

The Form 990 is circulated to all staff and board members, posted publicly on the organizations website, and made available to the public upon request.

Governing documents etc available to public Part VI line 19

Governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and other financial statements are posted publicly on the organizations website, and made available to the public upon request.

. Continuation of Part III 4a:Through these programs, students developed digital art and design skills while creating artwork inspired by social issues that affect their own lives. At the culmination of each program, YAs publicly presented their process and finished work to a wide array of stakeholders, including elected and city and state agency officials, community members, family, and friends. After meaningful interactions with each other and numerous creative professionals, our YAs were empowered by the skills they learned, their personal and professional development, the enduring accomplishment of their artwork, and its positive impact on the community.. Continuation of Part III 4b:Curricula were designed in keeping with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts and the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts as well as the guidelines of Creative Youth Development.. Continuation of Part III 4c:Programs were further tailored to enhance school engagement and attendance, outcomes for English Language Learners, and to provide representation and cross-cultural communication, especially in school communities with many of our newest New Yorkers. Students exhibited and celebrated their work during culminating events with an invited audience of peers, teachers, family, and CAW staff.

IRS990/Desc0PUBLIC ART YOUTH EMPLOYMENT: In FY25, Creative Art Works offered 367 internships and apprenticeships through 18 Public Art Youth Employment programs. Under the guidance of CAW teaching artists and program management, Youth Apprentices developed creative skills, employment skills, and life skills, such as leadership, teamwork, and the power of taking initiative and responsibility through the creation of large-scale public art or multimedia projects in collaboration with local businesses, organizations, and public spaces. In the summer of 2025 alone, CAW served a record high of 135 Youth Apprentices (YAs) at worksites. Projects included four murals, a multimedia oral history short film, and a multimedia guidebook to the New York Family Court System. During the 2024-2025 academic year, CAW provided an additional 213 paid Character Design digital artmaking internships at four Career and Technical Education public high schools. IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME ARTS EDUCATION AND ENRICHMENT: In the 2024-2025 academic year, 212 students participated in 7 Out-of-School-Time programs with 6 partners. Students learned artmaking techniques including watercolor, crayon, and oil pastel painting; cut-paper flower techniques; textured stamp making; Sumi ink illustrations; paper and kinetic sculpture making; leaf stamps; accordion bookmaking; paper-folding techniques; and clay pottery and sculpture. Literacy-based programs aligned artmaking with English language arts modules, encouraging younger learners to engage more deeply with the books they read in school. High school students at Hudson High School for Learning Technologies worked together to choose a theme, brainstorm representative symbols, colors, and words, and develop concept art for a mural to be installed within the school. Students in our In-School programs explored subjects like activism in art, surrealism, and even reinterpreting medieval illustration through a modern lens. Projects included collage-making, watercolors, decalcomania, cubist self portraits, digital collage and pop art, pottery, sculpture, bookmaking, contour drawing, board game making, paper cutting and folding, map making, oil painting, and more. In each case, CAWs professional teaching artists and program management staff collaborated with school teaching staff and administrators to align lesson plans with the core curriculum, showing demonstrable impacts on academic behaviors and performance. IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES: Other program services include CAWs fourth core program, Community Artmaking, which engage youth with their families as part of larger public events with community partners. More than 600 NYC youth and their families participated in eight Community Artmaking events in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Other program services included the development of new program initiatives and our Teaching Artist Assistant-in-Training program, through which six Teaching Artist Assistants-in-Training were provided with mentorship and skills development support and served as assistant to more seasoned Teaching Artists in classrooms and at mural sites.
