Bvlt has a conflict of interest policy which requires all interested person to disclose conflicts and potential conflicts as soon as tehy arise. The conflicted party may not discuss the transaction that is the basis of such conflict, and must recuse themselves from any discussion or vote on such transcation. The president each year reports to the board of the trustees all conflict transactions and how they were handled. The board of bvlt has the power to take remedial action if the conflict policy is violated

Bvlt owns, and holds fee lands and conservation easements on ecologically important natural lands in the beaverkill valley region of the catskill state park in new york state. It manages these lands for open space, educational and recreastion purposes for the benefit of the public.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 1, Part II, Line 5

Land purchases is recorded at cost. Improvements on land are valued at cost and depreciatied over the estimated life of the asset unless deemed not to add market value. Consistant with its conservation mission, bvlt assumes land purchased will be conserved and its market value may be impared to reflect its conserved value. Bvlt has impared one 287 acre parcel for its full value of 201,460 because the organization intends to hold this parcel in perpetuity. Realized gains and losses on natural land areas and improvements, if any, are recorded upon distribution.
