IRS990/Desc0Residential:Morivivi Safe Dwelling Program: In fiscal year 2014-2015, Morivivi housed a total of 178 clients (76 women and 102 children) all of whom received emergency aid including food, clothing, basic toiletries, and transportation fare. These clients also received a total of 57 service referrals; 751 individual counseling sessions; 188 advocacy services; and were given information 64 times. Due to a lack of affordable housing and other safety net resources which hampers an individuals ability to secure housing, only 20 women of the 70 who received housing referrals were able to secure transitional or permanent housing within the allotted frame time. This program also received 5 in-kind donations defined as toys, clothing, furniture, and/or equipment. Casa Sandra, Supportive Housing Program for Social Change: In fiscal year 2014-2015, Casa Sandra maintained a 100% occupancy rate providing a safe abode for a total of 51 clients over this period. The clients who resided in Casa Sandra during this period received 180 concrete service referrals (public benefits, permanent housing, employment, etc.) and 60 units of information was disbursed; 360 counseling sessions took place; and 100 advocacy services provided. Emergency aid (food, transportation, and rent assistance) was not granted during this period as there were no requests. Of the 51 clients served, 7 (including children) moved into permanent housing through VIPs assistance. This program also received 2 in-kind donations defined as toys, clothing, furniture, and/or equipment during the fiscal year.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Community Education & OutreachVIPs Community Education & Outreach (CEO) program, also known as La Voz, focuses on raising awareness about the detrimental impact of domestic abuse and sexual assault in the Latino community while promoting civil action and community partnerships. The program works on several fronts by informing the public about the confidential and culturally competent services available to members of the community, and by advocating for victims rights. On a policy level, La Vozs influence in the community is due in part to its participation in the following coalitions, task forces, and community boards which also work to inform domestic violence policy.VIP is a founder of the NY Latinas Against Domestic Violence, the planning committee for the annual Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk, better known as the Brides March, which generates great publicity for the anti-domestic violence cause. This years event took place across 3 boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx) with Queens participating for the first time. VIPs Queens contingency was met with the support of Council Member Elizabeth Crowley. Approximately 500 marchers participated on September 26, 2015. La Voz also engages the community, and therefore potential clients, through the Adelante Mujer initiative in which post-crisis survivors are trained on a volunteer basis, to provide grassroots community education and outreach. Relying on the evidence based community health worker model, these volunteers receive training in leadership skills development, DV 101, team building, public speaking, community organizing, advocacy, and cultural competency. They are known as Las Promotoras and engage in community outreach events including trainings, marches, and rallies. They are also routinely invited to speak at forums and press conferences. In fiscal year 2014-2015, Las Promotoras

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0ConclusionIn summary, VIP successfully rendered a total of 38,387 core services to 883 clients from July 2014 to June 2015 and met its goal of filling the gap in services to Latina survivors of domestic abuse and their children in a supportive and culturally competent environment. Moreover, the skills and successes achieved by VIP clients are a testament to VIPs commitment to create truly relevant services that respect each womans right to self-determination. The investment in staff capacity and agency infrastructure allows us to have a more accurate and concise picture of service provision and achievements. Thus, the gains the agency has made toward restructuring and fine tuning its access to technology has and continues to build our capacity to meet the growing demand for services.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1participated in 116 non-traditional outreach activities (e.g. disseminating outreach materials at nail or hair salons) and assisted with an additional 222 traditional outreach activities (e.g. community workshops). As a result, the program disseminated 25,196 outreach materials and reached 27,316 people. These outreach activities resulted in 761 hotline calls over the fiscal year. Bilingual Hotline 1-800-664-5880VIP manages the only live-operated bilingual (English/Spanish) 24-hour hotline in New York City which imparts an array of services including crisis intervention counseling, safety planning, and shelter space information, and referrals to other community based and non-profit agencies as needed. From July 2014 to June 2015, VIPs hotline received a total of 9,889 calls including 932 first time callers; 595 crisis calls; 846 inquiries on safety planning; 638 follow-up calls; 2,223 counseling; 6,631 general information; and 636 advocacy activities on behalf of the caller. Of these calls, 240 were referred to emergency shelters and 63 were placed in supportive or permanent housing.
