Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Cerf+'s career protection curriculum training (launched in 2012) expanded with 21 participants from 15 nationally-recognized independent art schools and college art departments attending our invitational workshops in madison, wi, and nashville, tn. This "train the trainer" program introduces faculty, administrators, and career services staff to techniques of integrating the topic of risk management into their professional practice courses and workshops. We estimate that during the 2014-15 academic year, 1,000+ students (in bfa, mfa, and certificate programs) received instruction at the 25 schools that are now using our curriculum materials. Graduates of the workshops not only have exchanged teaching materials they have produced, but they are also promoting the importance of the curriculum to their colleagues within, as well as beyond, their institutions. More than 450 people attended nine workshops and conferences where cerf+ was an invited presenter. Among these speaking engagements was a two-day series of meetings of artists and representatives of cultural institutions in puerto rico that were organized by the director of the office of support to the arts at instituto de cultura de puertorriquena. Cerf+ staff also provided informal outreach through its information booth at several conferences and art shows, such as the national council on education for the ceramic arts (nceca), craftboston, society of north american goldsmiths (snag) and sofa chicago (sculpture objects functional art). In fiscal year 2015, cerf+ continued to provide a leadership role in building new alliances between the arts sector and the general emergency management field. Cerf+'s national advocacy efforts to change the interpretation of artists' (and other self-employed workers') eligibility for post-disaster tool and equipment replacement by the federal emergency management agency (fema) continued to be one of two policy position priorities adopted by the national voluntary organizations active in disaster (nvoad). Cerf+ was invited to represent the arts and culture sector at the 2015 nvoad annual conference. Cerf+'s director of programs organized and moderated a panel presentation, "music, art, and performance: how the arts were critical to the recovery of new orleans," to introduce members of the nvoad community to the important role the arts can play in post-disaster community rebuilding.

IRS990/Desc0IN FISCAL YEAR 2015, CERF+'S PREPAREDNESS AND RESILIENCY-BUILDING PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON THREE AREAS: INCREASING INFORMATION ABOUT-AND ACCESS TO-BUSINESS INSURANCE FOR ARTISTS, EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ARTISTS AND MAKERS ABOUT BUILDING RESILIENT CAREERS, AND SPEARHEADING A NATIONAL MOVEMENT IN THE ARTS SECTOR TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL SAFETY NET FOR ARTISTS AND THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE THEM BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER DISASTERS. THROUGH THESE EFFORTS, WE SERVED 520 INDIVIDUALS WITH BUSINESS-STRENGTHENING COUNSELING (INCLUDING EDUCATION ABOUT BUSINESS INSURANCE) ALONG WITH WORKSHOPS/EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS ON SAFEGUARDING ARTISTIC CAREERS. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O CERF+'S CAREER PROTECTION CURRICULUM TRAINING (LAUNCHED IN 2012) EXPANDED WITH 21 PARTICIPANTS FROM 15 NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED INDEPENDENT ART SCHOOLS AND COLLEGE ART DEPARTMENTS ATTENDING OUR INVITATIONAL WORKSHOPS IN MADISON, WI, AND NASHVILLE, TN.
