Mission

Vip community service is dedicated to changing lives and transforming our community. Vip offers a continuum of services to individuals with histories of chemical dependency. Our client-centered approach empowers people to take charge of their lives and discover their personal paths to self-sufficiency.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Vip community services has been recognized as a leader in responding to the aids crisis and providing a range of preventive and medical services in the country's poorest urban county, the bronx. Vip operates several grant funded prevention and treatment enhancement programs, and a primary health clinic to serve clients within its substance abuse treatment programs as well as the surrounding neighborhoods. It strives to improve the health status of medically underserved populations by providing high quality and accessible comprehensive health care that is community-based and culturally sensitive. Vip's mobile outreach services have reached thousands of clients through testing and education and connecting medically compromised clients to supportive, wrap-around services within the primary health clinic. The units of service were 5,244.
Activity 3
As a multi-service community organization, vip community services operates a women's shelter, transitional housing for women, and residential treatment services for men and women struggling with substance abuse. The women's shelter "casa esperanza" and the transitional community residence "casa banome" together provide a sanctuary from homelessness for 84 women. While facilitating a transition to independent living, vip community services connects all clients in residential treatment and transitional housing to individualized substance abuse treatment, health, educational, and vocational services. The homey, tasteful "women's" residence has a census of 40 beds, and the brand-new, state of the art men's residence has a census of 80 beds. Overall, vip community services creates positive outcomes for hundreds of women and men annually in transitional and residential housing services.

MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT AT VIP UTILIZES METHADONE TO STABILIZE THE OPIOID-DEPENDENT CLIENT ON AN OPTIMAL DOSAGE OF A SAFE, EFFICACIOUS MEDICATION AND PROVIDES A RICH ARRAY OF GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING. THE OPIOID TREATMENT PROGRAM IS PART OF VIP'S CONTINUUM OF CARE AND FULLY INTEGRATES CLIENTS ON METHADONE INTO ALL OTHER TREATMENT MODALITIES. VIP'S OUTPATIENT SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAM ("822") PROVIDES INDIVIDUALS AND GROUP COUNSELING TO INDIVIDUALS WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE OR DEPENDENCE.THIS PROGRAM IS ENHANCED BY VOCATIONAL SERVICES TO INCREASE SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND MEDICAL SCREENINGS AND REFERRALS.FOR FISCAL YEAR 2013, THE AVERAGE CENSUS OF THE AGENCY WAS 1,191; UNITS OF SERVICE PROVIDED WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000 UNITS FOR OTP AND 16,000 FOR 822 PROGRAM.
