National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives

“Any individual who is or has been involved in representing social security claimants before the social security administration shall be eligible to become an active member of this association. An attorney or retired attorney seeking membership must also be in good standing with the bar of the jurisdiction in which the attorney is a member and not currently disbarred or suspended from the practice of law in any jurisdiction. A retired attorney or claimant's representative may maintain (or regain) membership if the retired attorney or claimant's representative was previously a member. There shall be two classes of active membership: sustaining membership and regular membership. A regular member may become a sustaining member upon payment of increased dues.”

“Only active members in good standing as of june 1 of each year shall be; (1) counted for purposes of determining the number of representatives for which each circuit is entitled; (2) entitled to receive a ballot for purposes of electing a representative for that member's circuit.”

“Form 990 is reviewed by the organization's interim executive director and finance committee director before filing with the internal revenue service.”

“The conflict of interest policy affects any director, officer, trustee, key employee or member of a committee with governing board delegated powers, who has a direct or indirect financial interest, as defined below, is an interested person. In connection with any actual or possible conflict of interest, an interested person must disclose annually the existence of the financial interest and be given the opportunity to disclose all material facts to the directors and members of committees with governing board delegated powers considering the proposed transaction or arrangement. After disclosure of the financial interest and all material facts, and after any discussion with the interested person, he/she shall leave the governing board or committee meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon. The remaining board or committee members shall decide if a conflict of interest exists.”

“The organization makes bylaws and selected policies available to the public on www.nosscr.org. Other governing documents, conflicts of interest policy, and financial statements are not generally made available to the public, but if requests for copies of these documents were to be received, the organization would consider making them available to the requestor following board of directors consideration and approval.”
