Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the organization, and has concluded that as of june 30, 2020, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability (or asset) or disclosure in the financial statements. The organization is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. Management believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2017.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0MUSIC MEMORY DESPITE UNPRECEDENTED CIRCUMSTANCES, RIVERSIDE SYMPHONY CONTINUED ITS MISSION TO INSTILL A LIFELONG LOVE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC IN YOUNG PEOPLE VIA MUSIC MEMORY IN 2019-20. THROUGH THE PROGRAM'S CURRICULUM OF 16 TIMELESS CLASSICAL COMPOSITIONS, STUDENTS IN 13 SCHOOLS WERE PROVIDED QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION FACILITATED BY AN IN-DEPTH CURRICULUM PACKET (PURCHASED BY INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS FOR $75). MATERIALS INCLUDE ACCESS TO PRINTABLE LISTENING MAPS, WORKSHEETS AND GRAPHICS, ALL PROMOTING UNDERSTANDING OF MUSICAL TERMS, COMPOSER BACKGROUNDS, AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE.BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND NOVEMBER '19, RIVERSIDE SYMPHONY EDUCATION COORDINATOR MATT MALONE RECRUITED AND ENROLLED 15 TEACHERS AND THEIR STUDENTS FOR THE PROGRAM. IN ADDITION TO THE ONGOING SUPPORT PROVIDED YEAR-ROUND TO PARTICIPATING TEACHERS, MALONE LED TWO CTLE-CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS (10/23/19, 1/16/20) AT ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH.THIS YEAR'S CITYWIDE FINALS WERE HELD ONLINE TO SAFELY ALLOW STUDENT AND TEACHER PARTICIPATION. SHORT EXCERPTS OF PROGRAM REPERTOIRE WERE PLAYED FOR STUDENTS OVER THE COMPUTER, WHO WERE THEN CALLED UPON TO IDENTIFY THE WORKS' TITLES AND COMPOSERS. APPROXIMATELY 720 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THIS FIRST-TIME VIRTUAL EVENT, MORE CHALLENGING THAN MOST YEARS SINCE STUDENTS (WHO WOULD OTHERWISE COLLABORATE WITH OTHER TEAM MEMBERS) WERE QUIZZED INDEPENDENTLY. DESPITE THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, RESULTS MATCHED THOSE OF PREVIOUS YEARS, WITH TEACHERS REPORTING MANY PERFECT SCORES. FOLLOWING THE EVENT, RIVERSIDE SYMPHONY SHARED PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATES WITH ALL STUDENTS. IN THE MONTH FOLLOWING THE FINALS (FINAL TESTS FROM STUDENTS WERE DUE 04/24/20), THE SYMPHONY ELICITED FEEDBACK FROM THE TEACHERS ABOUT CURRICULAR MATERIALS, PD WORKSHOPS, COMMUNICATIONS, AND THE CONTEST ITSELF. THIS YEAR, FEEDBACK WAS POSITIVE, WITH TEACHERS EXPRESSING THEIR APPRECIATION AT HAVING BEEN ABLE TO IMPLEMENT THE CONTENT REMOTELY.
