Activity 2

Land stewardship protects and maintains acquired conservation properties while seeking the most appropriate permanent owner to safeguard its resources, typically a government agency, a partnering land trust, or private conservation buyer. The stewardship program also enforces all conservation easements held by osi/osc. In 2011, the land stewardship program monitored 34,363 acres held in easements, maintained 109 properties, and transferred 18 properties into permanent conservation ownership.

Activity 3

The conservation finance program ("cfp") accelerates the rate and effectiveness of conservation by providing grants and low-cost bridge loans for land transactions in selected landscapes in the eastern u.s. Cfp works with donors to design and administer capital re-grant programs, and with land trusts to structure and implement transactions. Cfp assists projects that enhance existing conservation lands, help to channel or redirect development away from sensitive natural areas or that will protect open spaces under immediate threat of being developed. Through 28 grants and 1 loan, totaling $4.2 million, osi protected 13,000 acres in 6 states and provinces with a fair market value of $30 million in 2011.
