FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1:

COLLABORATE AND DEVELOP THE ABILITY OF THOSE WHO PROVIDE OR SUPPORT ARTS PROGRAMMING AND CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT FOR YOUTH BOTH IN AND OUT OF SCHOOLS. FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4D: 1. NEW INITIATIVES - New Initiatives (NI) extends our reach, both in and outside of New York City public schools. It also pilots programs and develops curriculum. Among the services is Art and Healthy Living, an innovative nutrition and visual art program that reached 2594 children in 31 high poverty schools. NI also developed new pre-Kindergarten curriculum and conducted 17 full days of professional learning programs that served 330 teachers and administrators. The Arts Intern program offers college students with demonstrated financial need access to quality, paid, summer intern positions. Last year, the internship provided 30 NYC college students with positions in NYC cultural institutions. Arts Mentor offered paid summer internships to college students, who in turn supported high school students in our Teen programs. 2. Teen programs - Teen programs include art classes and provide internships to high school students. Studio Intensives, which are art workshops offered on Saturdays and during school breaks, assisted 44 students in developing art skills and meeting the admission requirements for college art programs. Our Teen Apprenticeship Program (TAP) and Bloomberg Arts and Culture Internship (BAI) provided 139 high school students exposure to careers in the arts and art education through training programs and summer job placements. TAP consists of an apprenticeship and training program that, last year, provided art classes to 64 students in the Spring. 56 of these students continued on to a summer internship in which they taught art to children in summer camps across the city. BAI, a high school program modeled on the Arts Intern program, placed 75 students in paying jobs at NYC cultural institutions. These programs also provided students with college preparation and scholarship opportunities. 3. FEDERAL RESEARCH GRANTS - Expanding The Frame For Student Success (ETF) is a U.S. Dept. of Education, Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) grant project and research study. This program aims to improve student achievement in high poverty schools by developing and implementing a visual art curriculum that incorporates Math, English Language Arts, and Technology. ETF began its first year of classroom services in four South Bronx Schools, providing 28 sessions of instruction to more than 200 fourth graders. Tablet computers enhanced learning by providing students access to online art resources supporting their in-class learning. ETF provides regular professional learning opportunities for the classroom teachers, school administrators, teaching artists, and art teachers who are participating in this research study. Arts Achieve: Impacting Student Success in the Arts was a large-scale arts assessment research project undertaken in 2010-2015 by Studio in a School and the New York City Department of Educations Office of Arts and Special Projects (OASP). Conducted in close to 80 schools, the project reached thousands of students, and provided intensive supports to 45 arts teachers. Arts Achieve was created by two U. S. Dept. of Education grants: an Investing in Innovation (i3) grant awarded to Studio, and an Arts Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) grant awarded to the OASP. In the final year of the project, we finalized collected data and disseminated learning through conferences and a newly-developed website: artsachieve.org. 4. EXHIBITIONS - MANY SITES PARTICIPATE IN STUDIO EXHIBITION COLLABORATIONS WITH CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS. ARTWORK IS ALSO EXHIBITED AT STUDIO'S GALLERY SPACE: 1 EAST 53RD STREET. 5. ARTIST AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - THROUGH GROUP TRAININGS AND ARTISTS SHADOWING ONE ANOTHER, STUDIO CREATES AND MAINTAINS A COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS WHO TEACH TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS.
