Mission and Program Overview
Mission
Structured employment economic development corporation's (seedco) mission is to advance economic opportunity for people, businesses, and communities in need. As such, seedco designs and implements innovative programs and services that benefit workers, families, and businesses across the country. Each year, seedco supports communities through two core program portfolios: 1) workforce development 2) work and family supports seedco operates as both a direct services provider and an intermediary organization, helping community-based organizations expand outreach and secure funding.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- Work and family supports - even when employed, many workers earn wages that are too low to support themselves and their families. Seedco's earnbenefits program screens low-income households to ascertain eligibility for public and private income support. This helps households gain access to much-need benefits. Seedco uses technology and case management services to connect workers and their families to the full range of benefits: affordable health insurance, the supplemental nutrition assistance program (snap, formerly food stamps), and childcare subsidies. These benefits can help people in need attain long-term employment and financial stability. Seedco also manages a national housing counseling network, funded by the u.s. Department of housing and urban development. The network provides families across the country with individual counseling and education on topics such as home buying, rental assistance, and preventing mortgage delinquency, to ensure that families obtain as well as retain housing. Seedco also provides free tax-return preparation.

- Small business services - seedco provides small businesses with customized technical assistance, financing assistance, and recruitment services. Seedco operates three business solutions centers in new york city under contract to the new york city department of small business services. The centers provide entrepreneurs with business courses and advice, as well as legal and financial assistance. Technical assistance - in addition to seedco's direct service work, the organization's consulting and technical assistance division provides assistance to federal, state, and local governments, funders, and nonprofit agencies. Seedco works with its clients to develop solutions that maximize resources and funding streams. This allows clients to create innovative and practical approaches for the delivery of their services while overcoming challenges and identifying the most effective strategies for achieving their goals.
