Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The society's principal purpose is to operate a tuition-free school and library in order to provide information and instruction to the new york building and construction trades. The society disseminates literary and scientific knowledge through lectures and other means of intellectual improvement and maintains a cultural and educational resource center for those in manual, technical, craft and creative occupations.the society also provides operating space for similar nonprofit organizations whose goals are to preserve and promote the arts, culture, and history of tradesmen. In addition, the society preserves and maintains its landmarked building, which is listed on the national register of historic places and provides the venue for its educational and cultural programs and activities.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The society valued inexhaustible collections including books and locks with a total of non determinable fair values at nominal values of $4 and a cemetery plot at a nominal value of $2.

PART III, LINE 4:

The general society library makes its extensive collections available to the public and other institutions. The book and periodical collections of the library span two centuries and are suited to both scholarly research and recreational reading. Its archives date back to 1785. The unique john m. Mossman lock collection, has more than 400 locks, keys, and tools, dating from 4000 b.c. To the early 20th-century. Admission to the general society's mossman lock museum, which houses the collection, is open to the public.

PART V, LINE 4:

Income from the endowment fund assets is used to support the programs of the organization, including the school, museum, and library, and also for general operations.

PART X, LINE 2:

The society recognizes the effect of income tax positions only if those positions are more likely than not to be sustained. Management has determined that the society had no uncertain tax positions that would require financial statement recognition or disclosure. The society is no longer subject to examinations by the applicable taxing jurisdictions for the periods prior to december 31, 2021.
