Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

The chair of the board and chair of the finance committee review and approve the form 990 with the finance committee before it is filed.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The governance committee meets to discuss and outline a performance review that will occur for the executive director every three years. In the interim years of that review, if major organizational key performance indicators are met (as set and voted on by the board in the june meeting), then a salary raise in line with inflation will occur unless voted on differently by the full board.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Runway for recovery provides families with a continuum of support along their journey with breast cancer. We create community by hosting events and providing services that create joy and inspire hope. With shared understanding we celebrate survivors, honor legacies, and fund families who have experienced loss.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Doubled the scale and impact of the family grants program: runway delivered life-changing financial support to 69 families (200 individuals), a dramatic increase from 42 families the previous year. -grants averaged 13,750 per family. -families received support for essentials like rent, utilities, groceries, childcare, and extracurricular activities. -100% of families reported improved financial stability and strengthened access to self-care resources. -100% affirmed that their runway grant made a tangible difference in their lives. This doubling of impact is one of the clearest markers of programmatic growth and mission fulfillment.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Expanded a national network of clinical and community partnerships: runway built a robust national network of collaborating hospitals, cancer centers, and community-based organizations-greatly expanding its reach. Key partners include: -dana-farber cancer institute -massachusetts general hospital -tufts cancer medical center -yale university hospital -regional partners include the ellie fund, marisa's mission, joe andruzzi foundation, the dempsey center, and city of hope and st. Joseph's hospital in orange and la counties and sloane kettering in manhattan. These partnerships enable runway to reach bereaved families and those facing stage iv diagnoses at critical moments. This expansion solidifies runway as a leading force in family-centered breast cancer support.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Grew community-based fundraising: runway's school-based athletic program, play for runway, expanded into more regions and built a pipeline of youth engagement. Additionally, the organization achieved major wins across its three cornerstone events: runway show (boston, nyc, socal) -197 models -1,722 attendees -1.267m raised play for runway -4,500 students engaged across 25 schools -60k raised rally for runway and love for runway -combined 1,000+ attendees and raised 84,000. This underscores runway's powerful ability to mobilize communities and diversify grassroots funding.
