“The organizations board voted to increase the maximum number of board members from 15 to 19 on may 29, 2024.”
“The organization's finance committee is currently responsible for the review of form 990.”
“The board members are made aware of the conflict of interest policy and sign an acknowledgement of receipt. Conflict of interest statements are maintained by the executive director and reviewed when new business opportunities occur for any potential conflicts. If any occur, the board is notified of the potential conflict.”
“The executive director's compensation is compared to salary surveys of other comparable organizations in the area and approved by the board. All other employees' compensation is compared to similar positions at comparable organizations and approved by the executive director. The finance committee's approval is requested if compensation exceeds the budgeted amount.”
“Governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are available upon request by email to [email protected] or written request to homeless alliance, 1724 nw 4th, oklahoma city, ok 73106.”
“During the tax year, the organization identified an incident of financial misconduct involving a former employee. Upon discovery, the organization took immediate action, including terminating the individual's employment, conducting a thorough review of financial records, and contacting implicated funders. The organization has implemented enhanced internal controls to prevent future occurrences. Funds were recovered through insurance and the board of directors remains committed to financial transparency and integrity.”
“Winter shelter - in november 2023, the homeless alliance opened oklahoma city's first permanent winter shelter. It is open nightly from november 1 through march 31 and has beds for up to 300 adults and their pets. This shelter saves lives during the coldest months while connecting individuals with health care, housing, and other services. This was our first winter open and we served 3,538 unique guests.”
“The alliance is a not-for-profit organization exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(1) of the internal revenue code. The alliance has adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by generally accepted accounting principles. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return only when it is determined that the income tax position will more-likely-than-not be sustained upon examinations by taxing authorities. The alliance has analyzed tax positions taken for filing with the internal revenue service and all state jurisdictions where it operates. The alliance believes that income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and does not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse effect on the alliance's financial condition, results of operations, or cash flows. Accordingly, the alliance has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions as of june 30, 2024. Federal and state income tax statutes dictate that tax returns filed in any of the previous three reporting periods remain open to examination. Currently, the alliance has no open examinations with the internal revenue service or the oklahoma tax commission.”

THIS FUNCTION IS CRITICAL BECAUSE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS GENERALLY HAVE MULTIPLE BARRIERS TO SUSTAINED HOUSING AND NO SINGLE AGENCY IS ABLE TO ADDRESS ALL BARRIERS. FOR EXAMPLE, THEY MAY BE STRUGGLING WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITY OR ILLNESS, MENTAL ILLNESS, ADDICTION, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, LACK OF EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION, DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY, GENERATIONAL POVERTY, AND/OR A CRIMINAL RECORD. THE HOMELESS ALLIANCE OPERATES THE WESTTOWN HOMELESS RESOURCE CAMPUS WHERE PROFESSIONAL STAFF (INCLUDING PHYSICIANS, LAWYERS, SOCIAL WORKERS, CASE MANAGERS, AND EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTS) FROM DIFFERENT AGENCIES COME TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THE UNIQUE BARRIERS TO SUSTAINED HOUSING FOR EACH CLIENT. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 1 | WINTER SHELTER - IN NOVEMBER 2023, THE HOMELESS ALLIANCE OPENED OKLAHOMA CITY'S FIRST PERMANENT WINTER SHELTER. THIS WAS OUR FIRST WINTER OPEN AND WE SERVED 3,538 UNIQUE GUESTS. |
