Profile
Resonance Ensemble's goal is to weave a thread between the theatre's past, present, and future. By learning from and paying tribute to history's master dramatists, we strive to craft new theatre that is just as timeless and universal. We challenge writers to study their predecessors in order to create new work that resonates today. We are not interested in direct adaptations, but rather innovative new work that evolves from preexisting material. When appropriate, this process culminates with a production of the new play in repertory with the classic that inspired it.(SEE MORE ON GENERAL EXPLANATION ATTACHMENT)

“Statement of program service accomplishment resonance ensemble's goal is to weave a thread between the theatre's past, present, and future. By learning from and paying tribute to history's master dramatists, we strive to craft new theatre that is just as timeless and universal. We challenge writers to study their predecessors in order to create new work that resonates today. We are not interested in direct adaptations, but rather innovative new work that evolves from preexisting material. Our play development program enables playwrights to progress their work in a supportive artistic environment through readings, workshops and playwright residencies. Resonance ensemble provides administrative assistance, space for readings, and an artistic home for playwrights who are developing new plays that resonate with classical source material. As was the case last year, all of our work this year occurred via zoom so that those involved could stay socially distant and safe. This also created an opportunity for us to work with artists who reside outside new york city. These projects introduced resonance ensemble to new artists, especially those from diverse backgrounds, as well as providing a continued home for some of our long-time collaborators. Plays developed: a weeklong workshop of thug play by harley elias that started in june 2021 and culminated with a public reading that took place virtually on july 2, 2021. A weeklong workshop of for the people's good by eric parness took place in january 2021 with a public reading that took place virtually on january 13, 2022.”
