Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A

Little league baseball and softball is played in approximately 6,500 communities across more than 80 countries around the world, but regardless of where they are played, each of them share the same core mission. Little league believes in the power of youth baseball and softball to teach life lessons that build stronger individuals and communities. The huntington tri-village little league runs three seasons of both baseball and softball programs from kids aged 4 through 15. The spring season runs from march through may, the summer season runs from june through august and the fall season runs from september through november. The league saw nearly 1,200 children of all ages participate within the past year, at all skill levels, both competitively and recreationally. The baseball program runs the following divisions: pee-wee, tee-ball, instructional, rookies, minors, majors, intermediate and juniors. The softball program runs the following divisions: rookies, minors, majors and juniors. While the divisions are run in the spirit of learning the game and developing each player's individual skills, huntington tri-village encourages its teams to try and compete at the local, state, and even national level through both district and williamsport tournament competitions. In addition to league play, the huntington tri village little league holds various free clinics throughout the year and engages in many local community events designed to raise awareness of the program, as well as to give back to the community. The board is comprised of individuals from the community who volunteer their time to grow the game and provide a place for community children to gather, play and socialize. In addition, all coaches are drawn from a community of volunteer parents who, likewise, are dedicated to growing the game(s) of baseball and softball on long island. While the league does rely on registration fees to fund operations, it does offer free or subsidized registration for any child who demonstrates a financial hardship. Within the past year, the league offered financial hardship assistance to over two dozen children, thereby enabling them to participate in the league.
