IRS990/Desc0CHAMPION CLUBS: In school year 2014-2015, SASF provided 115 Champions Club Afterschool Programs, which included 3 Family Sustained sites, 2 DYCD Teen Action programs, 5 DYCD NDA programs, and 2 Community School Programs located throughout NYC, Mt. Vernon and Yonkers servicing 17,204 youth participants. Of the 115 programs, 78 of these contracts are funded through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and 60 of the 78 are Middle School Programs (including the 33 new expansion programs, called SONYC). Some highlights include: SASF's 4th Annual SASF Speak Week is a two week opportunity for volunteers to share their career, education and life experiences with youth in underserved communities to motivate and inspire them to work hard to achieve their goals. Some speakers are SASF's own Board members. 6th Annual SASF Spring Arts showcase hosted by Tina Cervasio. Tina Cervasio is a sideline reporter for the New York Knicks and New York Red Bulls telecasts, as well as contributing as a reporter and host of the network's other sports programs. "Girl ReDesigned" final event at MoMa PS1 VW Dome which was highlighted in VIE magazine. Girl Redesigned is an educational series for SASF middle school girls designed to build self-confidence and empowerment. All of the students participating in Girl Redesigned have been learning what it means to have strong character. Through music and fashion, our students are given a creative outlet to explore and express this journey. SASF program at PS207Q production of Guys and Dolls was covered in the Queens Chronicle under their "School Spotlight" section. STEM and Career Fair at JHS 61K - enhanced the development of our students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The agenda will include Math and related Science exhibits by students, Career presentations by STEM representatives and a STEM Zone featuring tabling by representative companies and activities to engage the students. Typical sites operated for 36 weeks during the school year with an average of 12 hours per week. Champions Clubs combine educational support services with skill-based sports, physical fitness, health and wellness programs, visual and performing arts, community service learning projects, and cultural and education field trips. A key component of the Champions Club model is SASF's High School Today, College Tomorrow curriculum that helps prepare middle school students for the crucial transition to high school and assist high school students with drop-out prevention programs, homework help, p/sat and regents test prep, college counseling, campus visits, internships and workforce readiness programs. Our data indicates an increase in school day attendance and overall improvement in academic learning as a result of participation in our programs. SASF is so important and plays a vital role in the development of youth in our communities. SASF helps to supplement the limited enrichment programs available during the school day by providing thousands of youth with the opportunity to attend Champions Clubs during after-school hours.
