“The long island association is a section 501(c)(6) chamber of commerce and business membership group that, by definition, has members. Members of the lia enjoy a wide array of benefits, from participation on active committees addressing the major issues facing the region; to large and small networking events; to major events that attract globally influential and respected speakers; to a variety of unique publications that provide special insight into long island's economy.”

Once the final draft is complete, copies are made available to the chairman of the board and the treasurer prior to its filing with the internal revenue service (irs). Once filed with the irs, copies are made available to the executive committee and the audit and finance committee.”

“The association adopted accounting standards codification ("asc") 740. Asc 740-10 clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, including issues relating to financial statement recognition and measurement. This section provides that the tax effects from an uncertain tax position can be recognized in the financial statements only if the position is "more-likely-than-not" to be sustained if the position were to be challenged by a taxing authority. The assessment of the tax position is based solely on the technical merits of the position, without regard to the likelihood that the tax position may be challenged. The association is classified as a tax-exempt association under section 501(c)(6) of the internal revenue code (the "code"), while the foundation is classified as a tax-exempt association under section 501(c)(3). Nevertheless, both may be subject to tax on income unrelated to their respective exempt purposes, unless that income is otherwise excluded by the code. The adoption of asc 740-10 did not have a material impact on the association's consolidated financial statements, as management determined that there are no uncertain tax positions within its consolidated financial statements.”
