After the audited financial statements are finalized, the external CPA firm prepares the form 990. It is reviewed by the CEO and the Board, then filed with the IRS.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts

The conflict of interest policy is presented to each director annually and require each director's agreement. When a conflict arises the director must state it to the Board and abstain from any vote until resolution of the issue. Conflicts are monitored by the CEO as decisions are made by the organization that each director maintains an arms length distance from any benefit due to that decision of the corporation.

The annual NYC Non-Profit salary survey is used to compare compensation with other organizations. The compensation committee of the board reviews and approves the annual compensation budget. compensation adjustments are based on written job performance ratings done with the manager and human resources department. Personal stories of victims are selected to help students build a chronology of the events of 9/11/01. Students work with primary source materials and use critical thinking skills. In 2016, 141,822 visitors were served at the Tribute Center. Interactive exhibits and personal greeters from the September 11th community create an environment for reflection that involves visitors in appreciating the scope and impact of terrorism as well as the enormous outpouring of compassion in response. By engaging visitors in the authentic experiences of those most affected by the events of 9/11, the exhibits convey multiple perspectives of courage, loss, heroism and grief.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc09/11 community volunteers are trained to serve as walking tour guides and greeters to engage visitors at the Tribute Center and share their personal experiences. 9/11 community volunteers are family memebers who lost loved ones, survivors,residents of lower manhattan, downtown workers, and uniformed services, construction workers, and volunteers who participated in the rescue and recovery. Monthly meetings provide educational activities, peer support and program updates. Volunteers also greet school groups and provide an educational experience.

A quarterly newsletter is mailed to community members to share information and resources. Web site www.911families.org is maintained to provide news, resources, events, and commemorations to inform and engage the community. Programs and changing exhibitions at the Tribute Center are designed to engage the 9/11 community, provide a supportive environment, and encurage peer support. Pulbic programs represent the evolving issues and facilitate community discussion about issues related to the effects of and recovery from terrorist attacks.
