| Line 28: Oversight of 7 weeks of construction work by 112 volunteers on service trips to Wisconsin, Alabama, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Management estimates that a total of 4,200 hours of work were donated. 1.Two weeks in Wisconsin were spent framing a Habitat For Humanity house for a young family of three; the point of this effort was to serve as a catalyst for a collaboration between local churches to finish the house and then continue working together on other service projects. The home was finished and has resulted in plans to build more Habitat houses in the town of Ripon, WI.2. In Gadsden, Alabama, ServCorps volunteers completed a house for a mother and daughter with significant health issues whose home had been destroyed by tornadoes 3 years before. 3.Two weeks in New Jersey were spent rebuilding in Atlantic City after Hurricane Sandy. 4.In Massachusetts, ServCorps volunteers spent their fifth trip helping a small, non-profit conference center to improve their facilities, which are on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of ServCorps former construction interns from the YouthBuild Hartford Program went on two of the three trips.ServCorps, Inc., a Connecticut nonstock corporation formed on June 9, 1998, creates volunteer opportunities and internships to build and encourage a culture of community service. Using our volunteers' expertise in construction, we improve the lives of individuals and communities by building and rehabilitating housing locally, in disaster stricken areas, and in other communities in need across the country. Our participants forge strong relationships, learn skills, embrace diversity, and experience the joy of serving others.During this fiscal year, ServCorps cut back on its operations in the city of Hartford although it did continue a limited amount of planning and fund-raising in collaboration with the non-profit developer, Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (NINA). NINA has a long term plan to help stabilize the economy of Hartford's Asylum Hill neighborhood by increasing the present low rate of owner occupied housing. With Asylum Hill Congregational Church and The Hartford Financial Services Group as partners, ServCorps and NINA completed the planning for a single family home to be built in the Victorian style that is characteristic of this historic community; ground-breaking occurred at the start of ServCorps present fiscal year, and the house will be sold to an owner-occupant making 80-125% of median income for the Greater Hartford Region. ServCorps is presently overseeing volunteers working on this project. In the past fiscal year, ServCorps stayed in touch with 5 of the 6 low income YouthBuild Hartford graduates who completed year long, paid construction internships at the end of 2012. All 6 found jobs in the private sector, and one has founded his own small LLC. Several continue to work for the independent contractors who served as ServCorps construction mentors when the young men were interns. Two continue to volunteer on service trips and benefit from networking with volunteers who care about them and steer them in the direction of possible career opportunities. ServCorps benefits from the use of some equipment and facilities owned by AHCC. ServCorps receives other donated services from its directors and friends. Other donated services include postage, telephone, transportation, graphics, bookkeeping, and website design and maintenance. The value of these services is not recorded, even though some might meet the criteria for recognition under generally accepted accounting principles..Expenses $32,182 | $32,182 | $1,400 |
