IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt0Backpack Snack Attack's mission is to feed all of the students referred by schools in Warwick Township who have shown signs of hunger and who qualify through the free/reduced meal program. For the past several years, they have fed nearly 250 children each week during the school year. The support of the Warwick Savings Foundation contributes immensely to this achievement. All public schools in Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake districts are included in the program. Teachers and school personnel identify the hungry children and refer them to Backpack Snack Attack. The organization also supplies food on weekends to the children during the school year.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt1Funds enabled Fearless! to bridge the gap between homelessness and stability for domestic violence and human trafficking survivors in Orange County by providing financial assistance for housing-related expenses. The funding allowed Fearless! to support clients in finding and keeping safe, affordable and permanent housing. The grant award amount has been allocated to provide much-needed support to nine individuals (three adult survivors and six children). In addition to receiving financial support to enable survivors and their children to access safe, affordable housing, these individuals received and continue to receive ongoing services, including advocacy, accompaniment and support, case management and therapeutic counseling to aid in healing from the trauma and abuse they have experienced.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt2The grant is enabling the Society to continue to convert the last room in the basement into a General Store, filled with items that were available in the 1800s, as well as unique utensils, pots and pans, antique toys and more. Two exterior walls received attention utilizing new mortar and cement plaster. All four walls are being cleaned, sealed and painted. In addition, parts of the attic were upgraded, roof flashing was replaced and the attic floor repaired. Also, a stairway to the second floor which had been sealed up is being reopened to enable the structure to meet CO requirements. The hope is that the Green Family Homestead will become filled with students and adults who are interested in learning about life in Florida in the 1800s.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt3The grant provided support for the church's "Soup for the Soul" community outreach. This included purchases of containers, labels, bread and some miscellaneous groceries totaling $1,644.76. Thanks to the Foundation's donation, all expenses were covered.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt4Greystone, which supports children, adults and families living with autism and other developmental disabilities, purchased the equipment necessary for the new Sensory Room at Club Atlas and Aspire with the support of the Warwick Savings Foundation grant. The room is still undergoing electrical work and updates to meet the needs of the program. This work should be completed this summer (if necessary invoices can be provided). When the program begins, Greystone can share the impact the Sensory Room has on the participants and pictures of it in use.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt5The Foundation has supported Habitat since 1999, enabling the organization to become a model for sustainable community development. The most recent grant had a positive impact on Habitat's Bridging Blocks Project-Phase II Part I for houses at 139/141 Johnston Street and 511 South Street. To date, Habitat has rehabilitated or constructed 103 homes in the City of Newburgh and has partnered with more than 120 families through their home ownership program. Currently, 11 homes are under construction and five are in the planning phase. Habitat is currently the largest developer of single- family homes in the City of Newburgh, furthering the organization's mission of providing decent, affordable housing for deserving families in our community.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt6The Historical Society of the Town of Warwick was founded in 1906 by a group of local residents with a vision to preserve and celebrate the history of the Town of Warwick and its people by educating and engaging the public in things of historical relevance. Thanks to the Foundation's recent support, the Society has made great strides in presenting forward-facing public displays and workshops, attracting new audiences to the educational programming and entertaining historic exhibits. The Society took the lead in creating two public exhibits at Mountain Lake Park. The WHS organized participation by the local historical societies and official historians. Programming at the WHS was expanded, and tours and historic walk-abouts resumed after missing two years due to the pandemic.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt7The Foundation donation was utilized for continued support of Hoops Express' U-Turn Program. It allowed the organization to provide mentoring, educational support, and community services to an additional 85 Orange County area low-income, high-risk youths and their families. Support such as that from the Foundation will enable the organization to navigate the unprecedented circumstances of 2023, helping our most vulnerable populations.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt8In 2022, Hospice provided care and support to 1,318 patients and their families and registered 58,826 days of care to patients in homes, hospitals, group homes, skilled nursing facilities and The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence. The Foundation grant has had a tremendous impact on the everyday operations of Hospice. The grant allows Hospice to continue to provide compassionate and quality care to all patients, while also supporting its Bereavement Support Groups for families and children, which are open to the public free of charge. Hospice is also actively involved in veterans organizations.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt9Foundation support was used to assist in the purchase and installation of a network server to replace an outdated and unstable VMware host server at the Goshen headquarters. All the individuals supported by Inspire benefit from this improvement in computer technology. Some of the benefits include the flexibility to provide distance learning and remote services when needed, improved data security and confidentiality, reliable and easy access to information, and improved communication.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt10The grant has been used for operating expenses, all of which are program-related and greatly needed, especially as the organization faces escalating grocery prices. Support continues to help Meals on Wheels purchase groceries for freshly prepared hot, home-style, nutritious meals that dedicated volunteers deliver to those who are homebound and in need. The organization was also able to prepare frozen meals and shelf-stable food for their recipients to keep on hand for unforeseen emergencies. In short, the funds help the organization to help those they serve to live where they want to be - at home - with independence and dignity.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt11Braeside offers a summer experience for boys and girls of Orange County aged five to 16. The Foundation funds were used for multiple projects, the most significant being a much-needed upgrade to the playground area. Another portion of the funds is going toward supplies for the STEM camp program. Enrollment for STEM in 2023 is well above last year's. Grant funds are also being used to complete very important repairs to the aging pool, including new water lines, replacement of the skimmer housings and replacement of the pool pump. These pool repairs could not have even been considered without support from the Foundation.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt12The 2022 Foundation grant was instrumental in helping pay the organization's taxes, O&R electric bill, lawn maintenance, and insurance. Incidental expenses included supplies and refreshments for events, mailings to the membership, and one serious tree problem threatening the headquarters. In a broader sense, Foundation assistance has allowed the Society to maintain a presence among the other historical societies in the Town of Warwick, and continued assistance will allow the Society to contribute to a new Town Heritage Room at Mountain Lake Park.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt13The funding is being used to enhance elements of the Center's Saturday Morning Enrichment Program (SMEP), which remains the foundation of the NUAC's mission to provide high-quality academic enrichment, early childhood literacy programs, career exploration pathways to children and families in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. In 2022 and 2023, NUAC served 650+ students weekly, expanded class offerings to more than 30, and provided nearly 2,000 hours of instruction per week, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers. The library has also been updated and renovated, and a computerized database installed. An after-school program for middle school and high school students has been added. The garden was expanded to include a fruit and berry orchard and a pollinator orchard. The NUAC hosted 12 internships in collaboration with the Newburgh School District and others. Groundwork was laid to begin installation of an elevator in the facility and to renovate several classrooms next year.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt14Funding was used for the Ministry's hygiene closet, one of the programs that has a broad impact on the lives of clients. By providing items such as toothpaste, soap, toilet paper and shampoo, the organization is able to address one of the most glaring issues with poverty that is often overlooked. Clients come from the community at large or one of two shelters. During one of the busiest weeks, 60-70 individuals will come to the Ministry in need of these basic items. Funding from the Foundation means that families don't need to make a choice between food on the table or a new toothbrush for their child. It also demonstrates that there are people who out there who want to help and care about their plight - the heart of philanthropy.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt15The Foundation's support allowed NCPA to tie into the "Educate" application that is used by the Archdiocese of New York. A "per student" fee permits access to the system which assists the administration immensely. "Educate" streamlines attendance reporting, report cards, emergency notifications to parents, and allows parents to set up a user account to check their child's grades at any time. This funding also has had and will continue to have a direct impact on the educational experience of NCPA girls in the following ways: 1) for the Extended Day Program, NCPA was able to hire a physical education teacher; 2) a plan is in place to hire a part-time music teacher in the fall for the Extended Day Program; 3) the 8th Grade class was able to take an educational trip into New York City for a tour of the United Nations. Funding was also used for miscellaneous building/maintenance costs.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt16With support from Warwick Savings Foundation, Project Life is in the process of upgrading its CTV camera surveillance security system, which is needed to help homeless families residing at Project Life to have a secure and safe environment. The current system is well over 15 years old. The funding from WSF and other donors will help meet Project Life's security surveillance needs for 2023 and beyond.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt17The Foundation grant to Safe Harbors was used to bolster the Cornerstone Tenant Services program to provide opportunities for tenants' personal reflection and growth, self-sufficiency, and community connectedness. Also, with the support of the Foundation, they continue to provide a robust schedule of quality programming to tenants. Residents can participate weekly Yoga, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong classes, or they can pursue their wellness goals in the fitness center. The weekly Drumming Circle has become one of their most popular programs, and members have begun performing at Safe Harbor events.Veteran programs are offered every Thursday, as well as the second and fourth Thursday of each month. In addition, the GED program continues to be a success, with more than 33 graduates thus far.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt18Since start of the pandemic and the down economy, the number of clients St. George's serves has increased significantly. They were serving 30 families weekly three years ago and now average 75 families. They serve Caucasian, African American, Latino and Creole and are seeing many new clients since the price of food is so high. They provide the five food groups, plus paper and hygiene products, and diapers and wipes for infants. They have also increased the amount of lean meats and food given. The pantry is open every Wednesday 50 weeks a year without fail. The demand for food is great.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt19Foundation support is an important part of The Cancer Resource Center's operating budget, and more important, has been there to help this small non-profit thrive despite unprecedented economic challenges. The grant has been allocated for the Center's patient assistance grant program which helps offset unexpected household expenses due to a cancer diagnosis. Roughly half of all cancer patients have incurred cancer-related medical debt and those with cancer are more than twice as likely to file for bankruptcy. With the Foundation's help, the Center has been able to award 17 families a financial grant. They expect to exceed their budget of awarding $25,000 in grant assistance and help more than 165 families in need this year. The Foundation continues to help the Cancer Resource Center make the cancer journey easier for those affected by this devastating disease.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt20Sponsored by Warwick United Methodist Church, the pantry's mission is to alleviate, to the extent possible, food insecurity, and the hunger and distress that result. It uses the funds to improve its ability to serve hungry people in the Town of Warwick, without regard to race, color, citizenship, religion, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, national origin, age, marital status, disability, etc. During 2022, the pantry received 1,564 visits and served 4,866 people in households that ranged in size from a single occupant to multi-generational families with multiple children. Clients receive shopping bags filled with groceries, frozen foods (meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and cheese), and personal hygiene and household cleaning items. In addition to facilitating the feeding of those in need, Foundation support of the pantry also provides institutional validation of the work they do in the community.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt21Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center has been operating for nearly 50 years serving the special needs community and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Their mission is to continue subsidizing their services along with awarding scholarships to clients who need it most. As of May 31, 2023, they had given $40,000 in subsidies and scholarships and that number is expected to increase. Four of the five schools they are serving this year through their visiting classroom program are from Orange County from K through 8th grade. As a result of funding provided by supporters such as the Foundation, Winslow's participants improve physically, mentally, cognitively, socially and educationally. Because Winslow has not had to change prices, participants have maintained their ability to afford these necessary services for themselves or their loved ones.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt22With grant funds, Beautiful People was able to continue to employ a part-time program coordinator who has helped maintain the new programs that were added last year. Starting in January of 2022, they began running two separate programs concurrently, increasing program days from roughly 40 per year in 2021 to 90 in 2022. Also thanks to Foundation help, Beautiful People added several brand new sports. For the first time, they formed a track and field club, encouraging more than 50 athletes to move their bodies to support physical and mental health. They also pushed new programs into the Newburgh and New Windsor areas. They have also made it a priority to add new programs in areas like Middletown, Warwick, Newburgh and New Windsor. They are on track to host nearly 90 days of programs this year. Since its founding in 2006, Beautiful People's mission has been to build bridges between children with disabilities and their families and the broader Orange County community by providing adaptive
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt23Dinner 4 Kids' mission is to identify students in Orange County schools who are malnourished or food insecure and to provide them and their siblings with healthy microwaveable meals six days a week annually. Currently, there are 18,030 people suffering from food insecurity, 4,420 of whom are children. Funds provided by the Foundation enabled the organization to maintain the 25 children they now serve and to expand their program to additional students and locations in Orange County.
IRS990PF/SupplementaryInformationGrp/GrantOrContributionPdDurYrGrp/GrantOrContributionPurposeTxt24The grant funds allowed Museum Village to expand hands-on learning opportunities and exhibits in several areas: 1. Educational interactives were developed to teach children about firefighting in the late 19th century; 2. Funds permitted development of a hands-on exhibit to engage students in the basics of loom weaving; 3. An enhanced display of a collection of uranium glass under black light piqued visitors' curiosity; 4. An expanded offering focusing on 1876 and the creation of "A More Perfect Union" causes visitors to reflect on our challenges and progress. Without the support of organizations such as the Foundation, Museum Village, now in its 73rd year, would not be able to serve the over 9,000 school children who visit each spring on school trips or the vast number of visitors throughout the year.
