“FEO funded a childhood hunger intervention program for 56 needy students in two schools. FEO covered the food insecurity gap that happens each Friday when students do not receive free meals at school. Throughout the year, FEO gave participants a total of 7,000 bags of food with more than 28,000 food items, which provided enough servings to ensure the children could return to school on Monday ready to learn. FEO created its largest scholarship program in its history with $34,000 being set aside. Two awards of $10,000 each, will be paid out over four years. Other funds will support an HBCU student, and an education major who will receive $5,000 each; two previous recipients of our recurring scholarships will receive $5,500; several students will receive book awards. FEO sponsored a bus trip for Hartford-area students to attend the Malcolm Bernard HBCU College Fair in NY. After hours of preparation sessions, the results were impactful: 29 students submitted college applications,18 students received multiple acceptance letters on-site, over $260,000 in scholarships were awarded (pending enrollment), and one exceptional student earned a full-ride scholarship to Simmons College. FEO funded a childhood hunger intervention program for 56 needy students in two schools. FEO covered the food insecurity gap that happens each Friday when students do not receive free meals at school.
