The disabled workers committee awards scholarships, when there are sufficient resources available, to a financially and academically deserving high school student with civic activity, who is the child of a totally disabled parent who was injured in the work place. Announcements and applications are sent to approximately 129 secondary schools in addition to workers compensation offices and labor unions. An independent group of 3 or 4 people from labor, management and the educational systems (who are not part of the disabled workers committee) reviews the applications and decides who shall receive the scholarship. In addition, the student must maintain at least a c average in college.
