“Below is an excerpt from footnote 2 of the audited financial statements for northwest connecticut association for the arts, inc. Nwcaa is organized as a connecticut non-stock corporation and is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. However, income from certain activities not directly related to nwcaa's tax-exempt purpose may be subject to taxation as unrelated business income. In addition, nwcaa qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(2). Nwcaa accounts for uncertain tax positions in accordance with provisions of fasb asc 740, income taxes, which provides a framework for how companies should recognize, measure, present and disclose uncertain tax positions in their financial statements. Nwcaa may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by the taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Nwcaa does not have any uncertain tax positions as of june 30, 2024 and 2023. As of june 30, 2024 and 2023, nwcaa did not record any penalties or interest associated with uncertain tax positions. Nwcaa would recognize interest and/or penalties related to income tax matters in income tax expense. In general, the prior three tax years are open and subject to examination by the internal revenue service.”
