Handbooks given to employees state the policy concerning possible duality of interest or conflict of interest on the part of employees and defines who is considered a member of the immediate family. This is also asked at interviews with employees and a background check is done on every employee. A conflict of interest policy is reviewed separately with the board of director members, and subsequently written acknowledgments are obtained from these members.

Part IV, Line 2B:

The Agency entered into an agreement with an unrelated third-party to act as a fiscal sponsor. The funds are being raised for the construction of a playground that includes equipment allowing the inclusion of children with significant disabilities. The funds will ultimately be turned over to the Town of Plainfield for the construction of the playground. The amount is recorded as both and asset and a liability.

Part V, Line 4:

The Arc of Quinebaug Valley Endowment Fund as established in 2012 is for the purpose of ensuring the continuation of critical services and supports that enable individuals with intellectual, developmental and other life-affecting disabilities to live full and productive lives.

Part X, Line 2:

Income Taxes - The Agency is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and applicable state law. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in the accompanying financial statements. The Agency recognizes the effect of income tax positions only if those positions are more likely than not to be sustained. Management believes that the Agency has no tax positions that would require financial statement recognition or disclosure. The Agency's informational returns for fiscal years ending June 30, 2016 and after are subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Connecticut, generally for three years from the date they were filed.

Community experience is an integrated program within Day Services which consists of social, vocational and recreational opportunities for individuals who may be transitioning from work to retirement. Classes are also essential in day programs as individuals are able to learn something new each and every day. Our classroom style programming offers classes in cooking, sports, nature, music, fine motor exercises, sign language and so much more.
