Activity 2

Harbor watch strives to restore biological integrity of long island sound and its watershed through monitoring and gathering valuable and credible water quality data. We are a water quality monitoring group that examines the health of long island sound and the rivers and tributaries that flow into it. We test the waterways all year long with the help of local high school students interested in pursuing a career in environmental science, as well as community members who are interested in bettering the area in which they live. Harbor watch maintains a state certified laboratory and works under epa approved quality assurance project plans.

Activity 3

Museum activities, programs and other. Earthplace offers innovative, curriculum based experiential natural history and science programs designed to supplement units for elementary schools, boy scout, girl scout, middle and high school students. Afterschool programs are offered for students from prek to 8th grade that are designed to guide and instruct children in discovery and enjoyment of nature and science. Earthplace maintains a collection of over 30 animal ambassadors, including bald eagles and other birds of prey to domestic animals. The birds of prey are regulated by the us fish and wildlife service and the mammals are regulated by the usda. These animals are used in programming and are on display for the general public. Natureplace is an interactive children's natural history museum accredited by the american museum association.
