“Social advocacy: bridgeport child advocacy coalition provided social and emotional learning training to 487 participants. Bcac assumed leadership of the parent leadership training institute, designed to build parent and family engagement. Bcac prepared and presented the state of the child report, providing data comparing the status of bridgeport children to children in connecticut. Bcac advocated for issues impacting the services provided by lifebridge and the community, hosting community forums and providing education regarding the issues. Economic empowerment initiative: lifebridge works with other agencies to improve financial knowledge and skill, secure and maintain housing, improve employment and entrepreneurial skills, prepare individuals for better jobs, and meet some basic needs. Throughout the 2017-2018 fiscal year, financial education workshops were provided to 233 clients. 80 youth and 288 adult clients participated in financial coaching sessions. The community closet provided clothing and household goods to 2,022 clients and their families. Additionally, 96,560 disposable diapers were distributed to 338 families (787 children) in partnership with the diaper bank. 346 clients secured utility assistance through operation fuel. Vita served 842 families, preparing 887 tax returns, helping families utilize $506,166 in earned income tax credits and securing tax refunds totaling $1,759,508. 29 nursing home residents were successfully transitioned to live more independently in accessible housing. Work skills programs served 35 clients providing customer service training, job readiness and skill building programs and certifications.”
